+ | The Holy Orenian Emperor (High Imperial: Imperator Orenorum, literally: "Emperor of the Humans") was the ruler of the Holy Orenian Empire. The title has been faded in and out of existence, generally moving between that of a hereditary autocracy and that of an elected monarch, depending on the particular incarnation of the Empire it applies to. The noble house that has held the title has also changed back and forth considerably over the last two centuries. The first Holy Orenian Emperor and creator of the First Empire was Exalted Godfrey, also known as Godfrey I, of the House of Horen.
− | The | + | The title was held in conjunction with the rule of the Kingdom of Oren (as King of Oren), the Kingdom of Renatus and the Kingdom of Salvus. Typically, the Holy Orenian Emperor was the most powerful man in the known world, possessing a vast network of lands, armies, coin, and other resources, ruling over the most powerful of the world's states and its singular superpower. In practice however, a Holy Orenian Emperor was only as strong as his army and alliances made him. When an emperor was unable to serve due to incapacity, youth or absence, he would appoint a trusted regent to rule in his stead with a similar level of power and authority. If this regent was also a prince, he would be entitled with the position of Prince Regent. |
− | The | + | The consort of the Holy Orenian Emperor is known as the Empress-Consort. |
− | + | The title has belonged to members of House Horen, Carrion, Chivay, Marna, Cascadia, Joannes, Helane and Novellen.
− | + | == Excerpt Upon the Nature of Imperial Authority ==
− | + | It is the crown of piety that adorns the Emperor above all other ornaments of kingship. Wealth vanishes; glory perishes, but the gift of God-given government is eternal, and it sets its possessors beyond the reach of oblivion.
− | |||
− | |||
− | + | By the hand of Holy Pontiffs, the Emperor is bestowed a dignity beyond all honors, for it is a dignity bestowed by God. His soul is rendered pure upon ascent and thenceforth reflects the state of his dominions; if sallow be his domain, his spirit languishes in its equal. He weighs the sins of men, and is thus burdened to toil towards a realm kin to the heavens.
− | + | By the nature of his body, the Emperor is alike to other men--but by his authority, he is above all others, and no man can claim greater jurisdiction. The Imperial Office is that of the Lord’s vice-regent in this world, and is wholly unbound by common or temporal law. He is inalienable and indomitable, as he must be so as to govern justly and fairly.
− | + | In receiving this dignity, the Emperor is compelled to emulate He who granted it, for though all men serve him, he is servant to God. Earthly pomp degrades the majesty of his office, as do wickedness and laxity. To afford wisdom and mercy akin to the Lord’s is the Emperor’s greatest faculty; he is credited with greater capacity than any other to work justice.
− | + | Yet no man is his judge, and God his only confessor. the Emperor is eminent in all things; he is above the sun that retreats before darkness, and the seas which accede to the ravings of the stars. He is greater than the winds which toss without abandon, and the earth that lays indolent still despite calamity. The Emperor is Oren manifest: successor to its prophets and master to the world, the sovereign of all humanity who provides that esteemed folk with just governance.

+ | Following the aftermath of the Coup of Adelburg, with the assassination of John VI, Holy Orenian Emperor in the throne room at the hands of Aurelius Horen-Pertinax, the Reformed Kingdom of Renatus was declared, led by Aurelius Horen-Pertinax as its King. Immediately after, the imperial loyalists gathered their forces in the Kingdom of Marna, before eventually surrendering their lands and titles to Aurelius, including the title of King of Marna, leading to the formation of the Crown of Renatus-Marna. Years later, after the vassalization of the Kingdom of Haense under the Crown of Renatus-Marna, Aurelius proclaimed the Seventh Empire and styled himself as Emperor of Man, a title historically equivalent to the one of a Holy Orenian Emperor.

+ | Following the sudden deaths of Emperor Philip III and Empress Anastasia I, their youngest son Frederick Novellen declared the dissolution of the Holy Orenian Empire, on grounds that it was the final will of his parents, and reformed it into the Kingdom of Oren and the independent Grandmarch of Westfall. Peter Novellen, the eldest son of the deceased Imperial rulers, rejected his younger brother's dissolution of the Empire and was proclaimed Emperor Peter IV. From there, he would go on to fight a four-month civil war to establish himself as Emperor in the Brothers' War, but would be ultimately killed when his followers attempted to storm New Providence during the Battle for New Providence.

For a List of all Monarchs of Oren, see: List of Orenian Monarchs
The Holy Orenian Emperor (High Imperial: Imperator Orenorum, literally: "Emperor of the Humans") was the ruler of the Holy Orenian Empire.
The title was held in conjunction with the rule of the Kingdom of Oren (as King of Oren), the Kingdom of Renatus and the Kingdom of Salvus.
The consort of the Holy Orenian Emperor is known as the Empress-Consort.
The title has belonged to members of House Horen, Carrion, Chivay, Marna, Cascadia, Joannes, Helane and Novellen.

Excerpt Upon the Nature of Imperial Authority
It is the crown of piety that adorns the Emperor above all other ornaments of kingship. Wealth vanishes; glory perishes, but the gift of God-given government is eternal, and it sets its possessors beyond the reach of oblivion.
By the hand of Holy Pontiffs, the Emperor is bestowed a dignity beyond all honors, for it is a dignity bestowed by God. His soul is rendered pure upon ascent and thenceforth reflects the state of his dominions; if sallow be his domain, his spirit languishes in its equal. He weighs the sins of men, and is thus burdened to toil towards a realm kin to the heavens.
By the nature of his body, the Emperor is alike to other men--but by his authority, he is above all others, and no man can claim greater jurisdiction. The Imperial Office is that of the Lord’s vice-regent in this world, and is wholly unbound by common or temporal law. He is inalienable and indomitable, as he must be so as to govern justly and fairly.
In receiving this dignity, the Emperor is compelled to emulate He who granted it, for though all men serve him, he is servant to God. Earthly pomp degrades the majesty of his office, as do wickedness and laxity. To afford wisdom and mercy akin to the Lord’s is the Emperor’s greatest faculty; he is credited with greater capacity than any other to work justice.
Yet no man is his judge, and God his only confessor. the Emperor is eminent in all things; he is above the sun that retreats before darkness, and the seas which accede to the ravings of the stars. He is greater than the winds which toss without abandon, and the earth that lays indolent still despite calamity. The Emperor is Oren manifest: successor to its prophets and master to the world, the sovereign of all humanity who provides that esteemed folk with just governance.
- Prince-Father Charles Polycarp, Metropolitan of Felsen, 1527

House of Pertinaxi (1678 - 1715)
Following the aftermath of the Coup of Adelburg, with the assassination of John VI, Holy Orenian Emperor in the throne room at the hands of Aurelius Horen-Pertinax, the Reformed Kingdom of Renatus was declared, led by Aurelius Horen-Pertinax as its King.

Selected as compromise candidates for the throne by High Pontiff, Daniel VI, the House of Joannes were ostensibly an off-shoot of the Houses of Alstion and Marna. However, after the death of their only monarch, the family were alleged to be bastards of Cesarina Louise and Laertes de Falstaff. However, the opposing argument contends that these claims by Laertes de Falstaff were likely encouraged by the new Lord Protector, Adrian de Sarkozy, as a way of asserting his nascent government's legitimacy.

House of Novellen (1868 - 1868)
The reign of the following Holy Orenian Emperor is disputed due to length, lack of coronation, and war defeat.
Following the sudden deaths of Emperor Philip III and Empress Anastasia I, their youngest son Frederick Novellen declared the dissolution of the Holy Orenian Empire, on grounds that it was the final will of his parents, and reformed it into the Kingdom of Oren and the independent Grandmarch of Westfall.
