The King of Norland is the reigning Monarch, sole Sovereign, and Head of State of the Kingdom of Norland. Established by Thoromir 'the Herald' Ruricsson Armahnk, the title can only be held by his descendants, the Rurikkid, who are elected via Kingsmoot and crowned by the High Keeper of the Red Faith. There have been instances of pretenders laying claim to the title, such as Canonius Horen, Augustus Horen, and Antonius Horen, former Emperors of Man. The Kingsmoot itself has been abolished many times by the reigning Monarch through the history of the title, most famously by King Caedric Edvardsson Ruric during his reclamation and further reformation of the Kingdom; establishing the law of primogeniture in its place. The Kingsmoot most recently was re-established by the provisional government lead by Vane Freysson after the death of King Sven II Edvardsson Ruric.

The Kingdom of Norland, and the title of King of Norland, has been reformed five times, on Vailor, Axios, and Arcas. Edvard I Thorsson Ruric formed the First Kingdom of Norland during his reign in Vailor, Sven Eiriksson Ruric formed the Second Kingdom after his Father abdicated, Artyom Eiriksson Ruric formed the Third Kingdom after the Staunton Rebellion, Torsten Rosik formed the Thrid Kingdom of Norland leading to the Third Atlas Coalition War, and Caedric Edvardsson Ruric formed the Fifth Kingdom after the Rubern War. While the Kingdom was conquered by the Empire of Man, it is not widely considered a legitimate or true incarnation of the Kingdom or the title.

Rurikkid Clans (1476-1571; 1591-1662)

The Sons of Thoromir, Edvard, Eirik, and Frey all were made Kings of Norland during this era. The Kingdom of Norland, and the title of its King, was founded and dissolved before being refounded three times making this era encompass the First, Second, Third, and the Fourth Kingdom of Norland. The enemies of the Kingdom of Norland at this time were large and often very powerful forces that often used their military might to march into Norlandic lands.

Rurikkid Clan, Rosik (1689-1690)

The Clan Rosik, a cadet branch family of Clan Eiriksson, was elected via Kingsmoot as the Kingdom of Norland led by Torsten Eiriksson Rosik. After the death of Torsten in the Third Atlas Coalition War Clan Rosik would never lay claim to the title again.

During the present era of Norland, primarily upon Arcas and Nyrheim, the Kingdom of Norland, and the title of its King, were refounded and reformed once. Making this era encompasses the Fourth and the Fifth Kingdom of Norland.

Pretenders, Aspirants, & Claimants

Throughout Norlandic history, many people have sought to claim the title of King of Norland. Be it through force and conquest or simply claiming the title in a faraway land, the following are all notable individuals who have made claims without meeting any of the following criteria: being crowned by the High Keeper, being of Herald's Blood, or being chosen via Kingsmoot.

Beowulf Edvardsson Ruric was the first son of Edvard Thorsson Ruric. He had fought to establish himself as the King of Norland with the support of the Kingdom of Urguan supporting his claim. His failure to defeat his cousin, King Sven Eiriksson Ruric, solidified him as 'the Betrayer' in the annuls of Norlandic history.

Thomas Eiriksson Ruric was the first son of Sven I Eiriksson Ruric. Thomas was a lord of the Riverlands within the Principality of Dreadlands and was often perceived to be the King of the Norlandic people by outsiders, he self styled himself as the "salt king" as he enjoyed throwing salt at foreign diplomats who came to treat with him, which may have led to the mistaken attribution of King of Norland.

Exander Edvardsson Ruric was the Chieftain of the Edvardssons during the reign of King Sven I Eiriksson Ruric. He made efforts to depose and claim the Kingdom for himself, however he failed in his efforts only claiming the title but making no moves to usurp the Crown of Sven.

Theoderic 'the Unknown' was a man who falsely laid claim to the Norlandic throne and the heritage of the Edvardsson Clan. During the War of Three Kingdoms, Theoderic falsified his heritage to the Rurikkid bloodline despite having no blood relation and no logical way to prove he was a Ruric, and declared a rebellion against Sven II. The rebellion soon was abandoned as Theoderic went into exile and he forgotten in the annuls of Norlandic history.

Vangel Freysson Ruric was elected by Kingsmoot as the next King of Norland by few Rurikkid residing within Empire of Man, but his claim was rejected by the Rurikkid residing within Norland as well as the Norlandic populace itself. This made Vangel a claimant to the throne, as he has not resided in Norland whilst claiming the title.

Canonious Horen captured the Norlandic capital of Ruriksgrad in Atlas during the Atlas Coalition War. After his victory in the war and with the capture of Ruriksgrad, Aurelius claimed all the titles and stylings of the Kingdom of Norland, yet reigned over no Norlandic people, land, nor did he claim Herald's blood, thus the Norlandic people view him as a mere pretender.

Augustus Horen was the Grandson of Aurelius I, and claimed to have inherited the titles and stylings of the Kingdom of Norland, but once again, reigned over no Norlandic people, land, nor did he claim Herald's blood, causing the titles to be considered false by the Norlandic people.

Antonius Owyn Horen was the son of Augustus I, who again claimed to have inherited the titles and stylings of the Kingdom of Norland, but Antonius too reigned over no Norlandic people, land nor did he claim Herald's blood, causing the titles to be considered false by the Norlandic people.
