The House of Kortrevich  (Common: Kortrevich; New Marian: Kortrevic; High Imperial: Kortrevinus) is a militant Highlander House sworn to the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. The House was originally established by the first patriarch, Lord Otto Kortrevich following the titular enfeoffment of the Barony of Koravia by His Royal Majesty, King Marius II. The family retains its formidable stature in the Haeseni peerage and continues to duly serve their country through contributing towards the Kingdom's military, economic and political functionaries. Since its establishment, the family has consummated marriages to several Haeseni houses including the Houses of Baruch, Vyronov, Stafyr, Alimar, Vanir and Amador.

The House of Kortrevich  (Common: Kortrevich; New Marian: Kortrevic; High Imperial: Kortrevinus) is the current ruling family of the Barony of Koravia and vassal of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. Much like other Haeseni houses, they are descendants of the Old Raevir. They are referred to as Highlanders. The House was originally established by the first patriarch, Otto Kortrevich following the titular enfeoffment of the Barony of Koravia by King Marius II. The house’s history dates back to the late 1500s from an unknown line of common born Haeseni farmers, ranchers, and hunters in Axios.

The origins of House Kortrevich date back to the early 1590s under the reign of King Marius I of Haense. Although there exists a scarce record of the beginnings of the House, exception lies with the storied record of acclaimed Haeseni bannerman, Ser Tilman Kortrevich who fought during the Coalition War, the Great Northern War, and the Greyspine Rebellion . Preserved military records indicate various members of the family served in the military until their near extinction following the defeat to the Kingdom of Courland. Somehow, the house escaped certain extinction, with the few remaining fleeing to the continent of Atlas.

Upon their arrival to Atlas, the usage of the surname Kortrevich became increasingly rare as many died due to disease and starvation; the rest being raised under fosterage. Although, by some means, a few survived; one being named Lukas, the other named Henrik. The pair being estranged brothers since birth, they assumed the surnames Haldor and Blackwood respectively. Coincidentally, later in life the two became commanders in the Brotherhood of Saint Karl. It wasn’t until many years later where a third brother of the same parentage, Edmund recovered birth records that revealed that Haldor and Blackwood belonged to one family; none other than the nearly extinct House Kortrevich.
 +

 +
Years later, the Third Atlas Coalition War broke out, resulting in the deaths of Lukas and Henrik Kortrevich. This prompted Otto Kortrevich to solidify himself as the head of the family. From 1690 to 1704, the House expanded its ranks within the military. Oftentimes, competing against noble houses in tournament events. From very early on, suspicions rose amongst the Haeseni nobility, if House Kortrevich would be elevated to nobility due to their expansive influence in both the military and duma. By 1704, the house migrated to the continent of Arcas.

As the realms of Atlas landed onto the uncharted land of Arcas, the Kingdom of Haense quickly settled and constructed the Royal City of Reza. With the populace of Haense calling Reza home, House Kortrevich grew to a levy size comparable to that of House Kovachev during the Dukes' War. In 1707, Marius II elevated the House to nobility for the first time since their dawning. The year prior, Robert I appointed Otto as Lord Marshal of Haense. Throughout the early reign of the new lord, kin like Ser Nikolaus, Ser Rodrik, Martin, Erik, Duncan, and Lotte to name a few, all began to make a mark in the Kingdom through the military, the duma, the knightly orders, the medical sector and the church. Most notably, Ser Nikolaus and Ser Rodrik as Knight Paramount and Martin Kortrevich as Aulic Envoy and Royal Alderman. At the same time, business ventures proved to expand the House’s wealth exceptionally. During the War of Two Emperors, the House faced certain turmoil both domestically and abroad, notably the betrayal of turncoat Ser Rodrik Kortrevich and the trial against Erik Kortrevich casted doubt in the House’s sworn allegiance. Despite eventual defeat in the war, the House persevered. Unfortunately, such perseverance was lackluster as the House poorly navigated past its defamed reputation. In 1738, Otto I of Koravia abdicated to his son, Markus.
 +

 +
Upon the abdication of Otto in 1738, Markus I of Korstadt sprung into the limelight. The young lord’s first edict was to restore the House’s defamed reputation. Successfully, the House’s influence grew far beyond the confines of the military. Additionally, Markus oversaw the restoration of Fort Korstadt. Though it was later decommissioned and torn down. A few years prior, the first Kortrevich Palatinial government would begin, lasting eleven years, sparking equal approval and controversy. By 1745, Andrew IV elevated the House with the Margraviate title of Korstadt. This came as a result of the House’s expansion of influence outside the military and into offices of the Aulic government; as Lord Palatine, High Justiciar and Knight Paramount to name a few. As a result, House Kortrevich once again solidified itself as one of the leading houses within Haense. In 1750, the climatic event known as the Kortrevichbowl took place. At which, two estranged brothers of different allegiances faced off in a “kill or be killed” duel. The aforementioned Ser Nikolaus and Ser Rodrik facing off. The former reigning triumphant. While Markus is often credited with the resurgence of the House, he is also often regarded as the sole perpetrator of the long-lasting feud between the houses of Barclay and Kortrevich, causing infighting amongst vassals. In 1758, Dame Primrose Kortrevich sacrificed her life saving the lives of hundreds of Haeseni, including Sigismund II during the Athera Expedition. The same year, Markus I of Korstadt abdicated to his son, Viktor.
 +

 +
After the ascension of Viktor I of Korstadt, House Kortrevich was en route to a downward spiral as infighting amongst Haeseni vassals placed the house in a precarious position. Much like his father, Viktor fought to restore his House’s honor; this time by ending the Barclay-Kortrevich feud. Quickly, Viktor ended the feud and readjusted the course of his House in the right direction. The creation of the Golden Crow Chronicles spearheaded the growth of the house from 1758 to 1799. In concert with this, the successful business, Kortrevich Krafters proved fruitful as it helped reignite the Kingdom’s weak economy following the relentless Rubern War and provided the construction of affordable housing in New Reza. Yet again, the House overcame overwhelming odds and once again solidified itself as one of the leading houses within Haense. In 1760, House Kortrevich acquired the lands previously owned by House Kovachev. In doing so, the Margraviate of Korstadt became regarded as the Kingdom’s agricultural sector and became a great reliance for the Kingdom during the Scyfling Invasion. Due to this and both the aforementioned business ventures, the house became one of the wealthiest in Haense. By 1786, the Kingdom was granted Independence from the Holy Orenian Empire. By this time, the house expanded into the Aulic Government, including as Lord Speaker, Royal Curator and into various Aulic Offices. Since Markus’ abdication, the house’s influence grew exponentially and was en route to another elevation. Following the departure from Arcas, Viktor guided the house to Almaris. In doing so, Viktor nearly bankrupted his house after aiding in the construction of Karosgrad. As a reward, the Viscounty of Krusev was enfeoffed. A few months later in 1799, Viktor I of Korstadt abdicated to his second-born son, Rickard.

History

Axios

The origins of House Kortrevich date back to the early 1590s under the reign of King Marius I of Haense. Although there exists a scarce record of the beginnings of the House, exception lies with the storied record of acclaimed Haeseni bannerman, Ser Tilman Kortrevich who fought during the Coalition War, the Great Northern War, and the Greyspine Rebellion [1]. Preserved military records indicate various members of the family served in the military until their near extinction following the defeat to the Kingdom of Courland. Somehow, the house escaped certain extinction, with the few remaining fleeing to the continent of Atlas.

Atlas

Arcas
