John Frederick, also known as John V, (High Imperial: Johannes Frederic's; Savoyard: Johann Frederic; Hansetian: Jan Frederik) (3rd of the Sun's Smile, 1590 - 8th of the Grand Harvest, 1619) called Lackland, of the House of Horen, was the first Holy Orenian Emperor of the Sixth Empire from the 14th of the Grand Harvest, 1614 until his death. He was his father’s firstborn son by way of his empress-consort Adelina Augusta of Savoie, sister to the Duke Jon Renault. Upon his death at the Siege of Trier he was succeeded briefly by his uncle, Robert of Marna, as Lord Protector and thereafter by his younger brother, Peter II.

Reign

Soon after ascending to the throne, John V found his new empire at war. House Romstun and the Kingdom of Lotharingia were at war with one another. Initially backing Lorraine, John V tried to fight against the Romstuns. However, his army was defeated in the first battle, and it became apparent that Lorraine would not be able to win this war. John V then withdrew from the war, and pressed the Romstuns to accept peace. Just before the Romstuns were going to assault Metz and capture the capital of Lorraine, he got the Romstuns to accept peace, though not before they flayed Hughes of Lotharingia. Following this war, the Romstuns were able to gain great sway in the Imperial court.

Death

During the war against House Romstun, the Kingdom of Courland was disbanded and formed into the Principality of Evreux, which vassalized under Oren. However, many of the vassals were not content with this. Many of Evreux's vassals, along with former members of the Axionite Coalition, rose up to break away from Oren. John V would leave his capital with his army, attempting to put down the rebellion. Unfortunately, John V was never to return, as he would lose his life at the Siege of Trier. This would leave his brother, Peter II, as the heir to the throne.

Issue

John Frederick married Claude of Lotharingia, twin sister to Hughes of Lotharingia to which he had one son with.
