The Kingdom of Gladewynn is a Hereditary Absolute Monarchy situated in the Loftywoods north-west of Cloud Temple by the sea. Its capital city is Caras Eldar and its principal diplomatic ties are alliances with the Empire of Man and Haelun'or.

History

The Kingdom of Gladewynn was founded [date].

Anthos

The Kingdom of Gladewynn has roots going back as far back as the Imperial Invasion of Malinor some hundred-and-eighteen years before the Horen Restoration. The First Empire led by Emperor Godfrey Horen I and Peter Chivay, the Grandmaster of the White Rose, led the Sack of Malinor and put the homeland of the Elves to the torch. In vain the Elves fought to try and keep their homeland from prying Imperial hands but failed, which led to the establishment of Old Gladewynn by the displaced tribes of Ithelanen, Vanethelan, and Corrin.

Geography

The Capital of Caras Eldar is nestled in the Loftywoods on the shores of a vast and tumultuous sea. Located north-west of Cloud Temple, the country shares borders with the Mother Grove and Nordengrad. The Woods are deep and the pathways winding over bridges and near mountainous terrain, many shrines and old fortresses lay dormant in the woods still because of conflicts that have plagued the land since the city's founding.

  • San'Kala: The former capital of the War Nation of Krugmar until it was besieged by Gladewynn and the Empire in the Third Atlas Coalition War.
  • Talareh'sae: A fortress belonging to Lord Evar'tir Ithelanen, it is located between Caras Eldar and the Druidic Order. The land was gifted to the former Dominion of Malin by Archdruid Nivndil and the construction was headed by architects Aewion Silma and Renn Vaeloryïs.
  • Old Gladewynn: The city where the Kingdom was first founded upon the Prince of Alders' secession from the Dominion of Malin. It is from this city that a warband organized by Gladewynn operated and struck out against the Dominion, Krugmar, and Sutica.

Government

High Council of Gladewynn

Society

The citizens of the Kingdom of Gladewynn are divided into three distinct castes. The Municipal Authority, the Clan Moot, and the Citizenry.

  • The Citizenry consists of laborers, artisans and soldiers who are not in a Seed, Clan or House. They perform many of the rudimentary jobs involving crafts, mining, harvest and druidry. Once upon a time all citizens were expected to take up arms in protection of the city, but Praetor Erathon Ithelanen ended the practice upon the Kingdom’s assimilation of Caras Eldar. Citizens may take up arms when they deem it necessary or when rallied at their own discretion in a time of war, but they are not mandated to repel raids unless absolutely necessary.
  • The Clan Moot is a collective of major families that have pledged an oath to the Monarch, and they are as equally responsible as the citizenry to provide artisans, laborers and craftsmen. The principal difference is that these families have more political sway in Elven society and are often entrusted with high-prospect jobs in the Stewardry, Military and Labor Force. Each clan has a notable Chieftain responsible for the family’s upkeep and political stability. Furthermore, each Clan may be expected to levy a specific amount of soldiers in times of war with foreign powers.
  • The Municipal Authority consists of the Royal Family, the Atraedes, and is spearheaded by the Monarch and their Consort. They are responsible for maintaining diplomatic relations with foreign countries, problem-solving and maintaining domestic relations with the Citizenry as well as mediating the Clans.

Economy

Gladewynn largely exports wheat, carrots and cash crops such as tobacco, cactus green and a plethora of grown alchemical reagents needed for potions, salves, and even weapons. The country imports lots of iron ore to smelt into steel and operates on the Socari Doctrine when managing its own economy with minimal intervention unless it involves “public facilities” such as the buildings in the main square that attract visitors and commercial tourism.

Culture

The practices of the Alderfolk were first codified in the days preceding the Dominion of Malin, but has remained in relative obscurity until the creation of the Free Company of Gladewynn in 1686, and the annexation of the State of Laurelin in 1690 which resulted in the formation of the Kingdom of Gladewynn. Mistakenly viewed to be Wood Elves at first due to the rampant practice of Ichorianism, the Alderfolk hail back to lineages derived from the first Seven Clans that formed Old Gladewynn in the days following the Fall of Malinor. These clans are diverse and have been known to renounce ties to subraces, such as the Clans of Ithelanen, Vanethelan, Corrin and four others lost to the forgetfulness of time, but supplanted later on by Csarathaire, Aureon, Torena, and Caerme’onn.
