The Imperial Renatian Legion (High Imperial: Legio Imperium Renatum) is the professional standing military force of the Empire of Renatus, in charge of upholding peace within  the Crownlands. It is their duty to defend the Empire from both internal and external threats, and stand ready whenever an ally would require aid. Serving the Empire as a soldier of the Imperial Legion is not merely a task or a duty, it is an honor. Formed from the foundation of the King's Renatian Legion, the Imperial Renatian Legion has elevated in standing from the proclamation of Empire. == History ==
The King's Renatian Legion was formed at the birth of the Kingdom of Renatus-Marna, after King Frederick Pius I of Marna abdicated the throne, giving his titles and land to King Aurelius I. What remained of the Freikorps and original Renatian military was united under one banner. However, it was not until 1651 in which the Army’s power and number began to increase exponentially. Senntisten became the epitome of a strong, human centric kingdom on Atlas, and an influx of trade and migrants from stagnant kingdoms began to find their way to the city gates. Men would sign up in droves to enlist, eager to serve their country in the brewing conflict. Thus, with a powerful military in their possession, the Crown was easily able to dispatch Norlanders, Reivers, and other degenerate factions who once plagued their borders. Victory after victory, raid after raid, more patriotic men who sought a better future for themselves enlisted. Men in the modified Landsknecht uniforms designed by Captain Krieger were plentiful throughout the streets of Senntisten. With each consecutive victory in raids and wars, the full might of the Renatian Army is unstoppable and their ranks grow by the day.

At the end of The War of Two Emperors, The Legion was dismantled and dissolved by Grand Marshal Illythia Arator in her edict, Vincere Est Vivere. Legionnaires were released of their oaths to the Crown, provided the choice of retirement or reenlistment into the Holy Orenian Army.

The Carolus Brigade combined personnel from both the Marnese Freikorps and Renatian State Army into a single, cohesive front line combat unit, with Prince Antonius Horen being charged as the first Grand Marshal. Drawing from the traditions of the militaristic Renatian state and the disciplined, regimented nature of Marnantine footmen, the newly founded Carolus Brigade was a force nearly unassailable on the field of battle.

The forges of the Imperial Legion Armory never ceases to be ablaze, its workshops ever so active- constantly providing Legionnaires with a wide variety of weapons.. The Legion's renowned and prestigious reputation proved itself to be the pinnacle of all existing armed forces.

Prince Antonius of Renatus-Marna, as the founder of the Army, was chosen as the first Grand Marshal by his father, King Aurelius I, to lead the Renatian forces into battle.

History

Formation

The Imperial Renatian Legion, formerly The King's Renatian Legion was formed at the birth of the Kingdom of Renatus-Marna, after King Frederick Pius I of Marna abdicated the throne, giving his titles and land to King Aurelius I.

An Oath Released

At the end of The War of Two Emperors, The Legion was dismantled and dissolved by Grand Marshal Illythia Arator in her edict, Vincere Est Vivere[1]. Legionnaires were released of their oaths to the Crown, provided the choice of retirement or reenlistment into the Holy Orenian Army.

Organisation

The Legion

The Carolus Brigade

Commanded by His Excellency, the Grand Marshal, it is the primary brigade of the Imperial Renatian Legion. It shall act as the main force, comprised in both ground and cavalry forces of officers and soldiers.

Forged during the fragile and fledgling era of the Union of Renatus and Marna, the Carolus Brigade derives its namesake from the father of the first Emperor of Man.

The Logistic Corps

The Imperial Logistic Corps act as the primary lifeblood in which the Imperial Legion shall fight upon. The Corps is charged with the production, maintenance, distribution, and supply of various necessities or tools of war for the men of the Imperial Legion. While the soldier does his part taking the fight to the enemy, the logistic officer plays an as crucial role. For it is men of the Logistic Corps who forges the arms and armor that preserves a legionnaire’s life or provides relief and food to him when he is warn and starving.

The Enlistment Corps

The Imperial Enlistment Corps comprise of individuals whose purpose is to bolster the ranks of the Imperial Legion with fresh blood and eager volunteers. Recruitment officers are to be persuasive and quite vocal to ensure every proud Imperial citizen does their part for the Empire of Man. Charged with organizing recruitment drives and can establish recruitment offices across various cities.

Ranks

STAFF OFFICERS

 • Imperial Marshal

His Excellency, the Marshal of the Imperial Legion is to be appointed by His Imperial Majesty and act as the primary executor of His Imperial Majesty’s orders and directives in the Imperial Ministry of War. Further, he shall command the Carolus Brigade which shall be the backbone of the Legion.

 • Imperial General

The Honorable, the Imperial General shall be subordinate to the Imperial Grand Marshal and shall be appointed directly by His Imperial Majesty. He is charged with maintaining and training the ranks, and to be certain they are prepared, in a moment’s notice, to defend all edges of the Empire’s borders.

 • Colonel

The Valiant, the Colonel is subordinate to The Imperial General and The Imperial Marshal, yet above any other rank below. The Colonel acts as a consultant, aiding his superiors in decisions; alongside being the forefront to bring troops to rally to battle, and so forth. The Colonel is also to lead The Imperial Army into battle, having been groomed into a field commander worthy of The Empire.

OFFICERS

 • Captain

Captains are the final rank before Senior Command. A Captain is incredibly reliable in both combat, and leadership. They manage Ensigns and enlisted soldiers, acting as an extension and tool of senior command. These soldiers command respect, and such is earned with their person, not their rank. Captains do not hesitate, nor do they fear out-lash. A Captain knows their will, before The Senior Command, is final.

 • Ensign

Ensigns are the start, and bulk, of the officer core. They have proven to be undeniably dependable leaders. They think critically and intelligently, having all factors accounted for when making decisions. These soldiers do not cower in the face of fear or adversity, nor do they allow their subordinates to. Ensigns are the most commonly interacted-with officer, acting as an extension of Captains, or upon their own, just accord.

ENLISTED RANKS

 • Sergeant

Sergeants are the highest ranking soldiers within the enlisted ranks, honed and experienced in fields of combat and leadership. These men and women show potential for something greater, and often show such. They command lower ranks and listen to orders from superiors without question, and often are shrewd enough to execute command without doubt or hesitation.

 • Master-at-Arms

Often the most reliable and seasoned soldiers in the entire force, they are recognised for their exemplary combat skills. They are proven to be battle tested and formidable warriors, exhibiting a hint of leadership skills over their inferiors. Master-at-arms is quite the jump in respect and regard, compared to Man-at-arms, as it shows the soldier has fiery ambition, or great experience.

 • Man-at-Arms

Men-at-arms are the tip of the spear for The Imperial Legion. These infantrymen have shown capable in the field of fighting and obeying orders. They’ve proven loyal and strong, having been battle tested before. These soldiers are exceptional at taking orders and carrying them out with impunity.

 • Footman

The first step to greatness, Footmen of the Imperial Legion form the bulk of the guardforce. Footmen have proved themselves worthy, as full-fledged soldiers of the Imperial Legion, they’ve begun their long path of service to the Imperial Crown and combat training.

 • Recruit

Soldiers who have yet to prove themselves worthy. It is during their time as a Recruit they are put to test for a whole year. They are evaluated after this year, and based on their performance, shall be promoted to Footman, remain a Recruit, or discharged from the ranks.

Arms and Uniform

The forges of the Imperial Legion Armory never ceases to be ablaze, its workshops ever so active- constantly providing Legionnaires with a wide variety of weapons.. From melee to ranged, these weapons are made in mass quantity and quality, for faulty arms have no place for soldiers who justifiably demand the best.

A standardized set of equipment is provided to soldiers upon enlistment:

W.I.P.

Legion's Oath

An oath not to be made is one not kept; in essence to pledge a guarantor of one’s honesty and integrity, with GOD as witness.

“It is said that all who take the sword will perish by the sword,
but I hold my sword not in vain.
I shall hold it with an unyielding grip,
to protect the Empire,
and those around me,
until my last, dying breath.

I, [rank] [full name],
do pledge and reserve my allegiance exclusive to the Emperor of Man.
to serve him with utmost loyalty, placing all else to be secondary.
I will obey all orders given by the Emperor and those of authority,
as mandated by the Imperial Law and Legion Codices.

And thus I drop my glass,
My allegiance reserved and delivered to only His Imperial Majesty,
Godfrey III of the House of Horen.

The day I waive my loyalty is the day I mend broken glass.”

Consequently, the remaining defending forces sallied out and sandwiched the Renatians in what would result in a crushing, demoralizing defeat.
