Thomas Edward Baden was an Imperial Statesman during the Sixth Holy Orenian Empire, serving as the High Magistrate for Peter II. He secured a marriage between Philippa Baden and Prince Philip, Duke of Corazon, furthering establishing the ties between the House of Baden and the Empire. Previous to this, he served as the Count of Trier under the Principality of Evreux.

Biography

Childhood

Thomas Baden was born to Prince Frederick Staunton and Amina Kharadeen in Aleksandria, Courland, on the 8th of the First Seed, 1596. His father served as an advisor to his twin-brother, King Tobias I of Courland and was granted the County of Trier in the year 1601, when Thomas was five. Thomas, along with the rest of his family, moved to the new family castle in Trier, where he would spend the rest of his childhood, mostly being tutored in the arts of war and law.

Count of Trier

Thomas had nominally been in charge of the County of Trier since he was 13, as his father had left to take the position of Arch-Chancellor for his nephew, King Joseph I of Courland in 1609. Throughout this time, Thomas continued to primarily be absorbed in his studies while spending time with his younger siblings.

In 1615, the Kingdom of Courland was dissolved and replaced with the Principality of Evreux, a vassal of the Holy Orenian Empire, which had reformed a year earlier. This, however, led to the Santegian Rebellion in 1617, when Abdes de Savin sacked Aleksandria and executed Frederick, leading Thomas to formally becoming Count of Trier. Two years later, the Siege of Trier would take place. It was the first battle of Thomas’ life, and saw the loss of his home and his liege, Emperor John V.

Life in Oren

Following the loss of Trier in 1619, Thomas and the rest of his family moved to Mardon, except for his twin-sister Arianna, who was married to the Count Jacques of Aven. Thomas quickly managed to befriend Emperor Peter II and Prince Philip, Duke of Corazon, soon having arranged a marriage between the latter and his youngest sister, Philippa.

Thomas blamed his father for the fall of Evreux and the loss Trier, and began to refuse to go by the name of Staunton-Baden that his father had, instead prompting to simply go by Baden. The rest of the family followed suit, effectively cutting ties with the House of Staunton.

Thomas was also granted the position of High Magistrate in 1620. During his tenure as High Magistrate he worked hard to implement reforms to the legal system, appoint magistrates and update the Imperial Law. He was greatly distraught by the death of his brother-in-law Prince Philip at the hands of House Romstun in 1623, and by the death of his sister Arianna in 1624. After finishing his update to the Imperial Law, he resigned his position as High Magistrate and departed Axios for Aeldin.

Later life

Thomas spent the rest of his life primarily residing in Pronce, Aeldin. He visited Atlas on two known occasions, once to witness the coronation of Alfred I of Curon in 1651, and another time to meet with Charles Elliot Horen, who helped Thomas arrange his marriage to Sophie of Fenbel on the condition that all their children would be sent to Atlas to join the Empire of Man. His marriage to Sophie saw him have one child, Frederick Alexander, who was sent to Atlas as promised. Thomas eventually passed away in 1705 at the age of 109.
