The Imperial Renatian Legion is the professional standing military force of the Empire of Renatus protecting the Empire from both internal and external threats. Formed from the foundation of the King's Renatian Legion, the Imperial Renatian Legion has elevated in standing from the proclamation of Empire.

Prince Antonius of Renatus-Marna, as the founder of the Army, was chosen as the Grand Marshal by his father, the king, to lead the Renatian forces into battle.

History

The Imperial Renatian Legion, formerly The King's Renatian Legion was formed at the birth of the Kingdom of Renatus-Marna, after King Frederick Pius I of Marna abdicated the throne, giving his titles and land to King Aurelius I. What remained of the Freikorps and original Renatian military was united under one banner. However, it was not until 1651 in which the Army’s power and number began to increase exponentially. Senntisten became the epitome of a strong, human centric kingdom on Atlas, and an influx of trade and migrants from stagnant kingdoms began to find their way to the city gates. Men would sign up in droves to enlist, eager to serve their country in the brewing conflict. Thus, with a powerful military in their possession, the Crown was easily able to dispatch Norlanders, Reivers, and other degenerate factions who once plagued their borders. Victory after victory, raid after raid, more patriotic men who sought a better future for themselves enlisted.

Upon the proclamation of Empire, the King's Renatian Legion was rebranded as the Imperial Renatian Legion and has fallen under the command of General Brand Denhardt.

At the end of The War of the Two Emperors, The Legion was dismantled and dissolved by Grand Marshal Illythia Arator in her edict, Vincere Est Vivere[1]

Incumbent: Ser Gregor 'the Mastiff' Thorne

(OFFICERS)

Captain

Captains are the final rank before Senior Command. A Captain is incredibly reliable in both combat, and leadership. They manage Ensigns and enlisted soldiers, acting as an extension and tool of senior command. These soldiers command respect, and such is earned with their person, not their rank. Captains do not hesitate, nor do they fear out-lash. A Captain knows their will, before The Senior Command, is final.

Ensign

Ensigns are the start, and bulk, of the officer core. They have proven to be undeniably dependable leaders. They think critically and intelligently, having all factors accounted for when making decisions. These soldiers do not cower in the face of fear or adversity, nor do they allow their subordinates to. Ensigns are the most commonly interacted-with officer, acting as an extension of Captains, or upon their own, just accord.

(ENLISTED RANKS)

Sergeant

Sergeants are the highest ranking soldiers within the enlisted ranks, honed and experienced in fields of combat and leadership. These men and women show potential for something greater, and often show such. They command lower ranks and listen to orders from superiors without question, and often are shrewd enough to execute command without doubt or hesitation.

Master-at-Arms

Often the most reliable and seasoned soldiers in the entire force, they are recognised for their exemplary combat skills. They are proven to be battle tested and formidable warriors, exhibiting a hint of leadership skills over their inferiors. Master-at-arms is quite the jump in respect and regard, compared to Man-at-arms, as it shows the soldier has fiery ambition, or great experience.

Man-at-Arms

Men-at-arms are the tip of the spear for The Imperial Legion. These infantrymen have shown capable in the field of fighting and obeying orders. They’ve proven loyal and strong, having been battle tested before. These soldiers are exceptional at taking orders and carrying them out with impunity.

Footman

The first step to greatness, Footmen of the Imperial Legion form the bulk of the guardforce. Footmen have proved themselves worthy, as full-fledged soldiers of the Imperial Legion, they’ve begun their long path of service to the Imperial Crown and combat training.

Recruit

Soldiers who have yet to prove themselves worthy. It is during their time as a Recruit they are put to test for a whole year. They are evaluated after this year, and based on their performance, shall be promoted to Footman, remain a Recruit, or discharged from the ranks.

Operational History

The Atlas Coalition War

  • The Battle of The Rolling Hills, 1660: The King's Renatian Legion, under the command of Prince Antonius pushed along the right flank of the battlefield whilst King Aurelius led the main body of infantry and cavalry up the centre. The two lines collapsed in on the sides and front of the opposing line and quickly decimated their ranks within minutes.
  • The Battle of The Forkwoods, 1661: The King's Renatian Legion, under the command of Prince Antonius and Ser Konrad Nzech led a full-frontal assault on the front line of the United Southern Alliance. The fighting was brutal and the legion was engaged in combat for several hours before being relieved by Renatian heavy cavalry.
  • The Siege of Ruriksgrad, 1662: The King's Renatian Legion, under the command of Ser Konrad Nzech were held in reserve and ordered to garrison the siege camp.

The Bandit War

  • The Siege of Small Tower, 1665: The King’s Renatian Legion led a siege on a Reiver watchtower in what would seemingly be a flawless victory for Renatus. But just as the main force made it to the top of the tower, a flanking force of skirmishers attacked the rear of the rally. Consequently, the remaining defending forces sallied out and sandwiched the Renatians in what would result in a crushing, demoralizing defeat.
  • The Battle of Huckery Hills, 1667:

The Staunton Uprising

  • The Siege of Whitepeak, 1668: The King's Renatian Legion, under the command of the newly promoted Roland O'Castelo were ordered to operate the siege equipment alongside fellow Adrian artillery batteries.
