Prince Philip, Duke of Adria (Philip Aurelian Novellen; born 1784) was the heir apparent to the Imperial throne as the eldest son of Emperor Philip II, but died controversially before being able to succeed the throne. Many are unconvinced of the nature of his death, with debates had over if he was murdered by his mistress, murdered by his son's wife, or simply had a heart attack as was the coroner's report. He was heir apparent and Duke of Adria from 1837-1849, although his title as Duke of Adria was disputed with Franz I of the House Carrion-Tuyvic, who was elected by crowsmoot.
According to the Church of the Canon, it was widely believed that his son, Philip III, Holy Orenian Emperor, and his co-Monarch Anastasia I, Holy Orenian Empress, had allegedly hired an assassin to murder Prince Philip, Duke of Adria in order to usurp the throne of the Holy Orenian Empire in the Aster Revolution. For that reason, they were both excommunicated by the High Pontiff Everard VI. This escalated into a bitter feud between the Holy Orenian Empire and the Church of Canon that lasted until the Peace of Eastfleet, which concluded the Urguani-Orenian War, and echoes of this feud can be felt in politics to this very day.
