The Aster Revolution of 1849 was a month-long rebellion in the Empire against the reign of Emperor Philip II by his grandson and granddaughter, Prince Philip Amadeus and Anastasia vas Ruthern with the assistance of the Principality of Savoy, led by Prince Olivier I. The revolution became a populace movement against the emperor and his incumbent government, gaining traction after a series of public displays and speeches made by Prince Philip and Princess Anastasia at the Savoyard royal court that led to the turning of many imperial noble houses and commoners.

Timeline

  • 13th of Sigismund’s End, 1848
    • The capital city of the Principality of Savoy, San Luciano, is visited by an unknown disguised woman, who later reveals herself to be Anastasia vas Ruthern to a series of orenian noblewomen via a discreet letter, including Mary Casimira of Carrington, the 3 eldest daughters of Prince Olivier I and other confidantes. She questions them on the state of the empire and invites them into the ensuing plot. Among those she later meets is Prince Olivier I himself, Princess Catherine of Sutica, and a multitude of imperial peers.
    • All express dismay in the current state of the empire, and Anastasia disappears for several months following.
  • 16th of Owyn’s Flame, 1849
    • A ship known as Princess Elizabeth is spotted approaching Almaris, which is seen to be greeted by Olivier I and his retinue. Prince Philip Amadeus, Duke of Furnestock and Princess Anastasia are swiftly hidden in San Luciano under disguise with their youngest children Prince Frederick and Princess Anna.
    • Prince Philip and Anastasia meet with a series of Savoyard councilors to begin gaining support for their claim.
    • Olivier I declares that royal court will be held in the next saint’s month in honor of his protégés’ return. Word spreads rapidly that the Duke and Duchess of Furnestock have returned.
  • 22nd of Owyn’s Flame, 1849
    • Princess Anastasia rides on horseback in the middle of the night and sneaks into the city of Providence in a disguise. This later becomes known as Operation Augustine, where she and her daughter, Princess Catherine reunite, and rescue Prince Peter, Prince James, and Princess Victoria. All the children flee to San Luciano.
  • 15th of Godfrey’s Triumph
    • Olivier I hosts court in the Savoyard throne room. Philip and Anastasia announce they are forming a mercenary group in order to assist the Holy Orenian Empire in the war. Emperor Philip II denies this assistance entirely.
  • 17th of Godfrey’s Triumph
    • News circulates of the death of Philip Aurelian, Duke of Adria, the cause of his death is disputed. Official accounts claim that he suffered a heart attack, but it is alleged by others that he was murdered by his mistress, Mary Casimira of Carrington, on the orders of Princess Anastasia.
    • Princess Anastasia is detained on the orders of Emperor Philip II. However, imperial subjects nearby raise arms against the Imperial State Army soldiers keeping her detained and she is released as soldiers begin turning against the orders of Emperor Philip II. Princess Anastasia escapes the imperial capital city.
  • 11th of Tobias’s Bounty
    • With the ongoing Urguani-Orenian War, Prince Philip Amadeus publishes the Mandate of Heaven in which he demands Emperor Philip II to surrender the imperial throne.
    • Olivier I calls another session of royal court, where Prince Philip Amadeus declares himself as the Holy Orenian Emperor.
    • Count Joseph d’Azor, Count Matyas Basrid, Viscountess Amadie Pruvia, and Baron Wilhelm of Carrington swear fealty to Emperor Philip III. Other peers are soon to follow, including the House of de Sarkozy.
  • 14th of Tobias's Bounty
    • Braxus Ni'leya, the Sohaer of the Silver State of Haelun'or personally visits San Luciano to announce Haelun'ors recognization of Philip III as the rightful Holy Orenian Emperor.
  • 15th of Tobias’s Bounty
    • Rumors spiral that Emperor Philip II has disappeared from the newly-constructed New Providence. He is presumed dead, with a disputed cause of death. It is widely claimed he was pushed into the city’s canal by Olivier de Savoie himself.
    • Baron Otis de Rosius arrives in San Luciano and swears fealty to Emperor Philip III.
    • After receiving word of the disappearance of Philip II, Emperor Philip III, Empress Anastasia of Kositz, and Prince Olivier I march their respective armies from San Luciano to New Providence. Along the way, subjects of the Holy Orenian Empire, Principality of Savoy, and other nations join behind the trio on their march.
  • 16th of Tobias’s Bounty
    • The Archchancellor of the Holy Orenian Empire, Princess Josephine of Oren dies in a carriage accident while escaping from New Providence.
    • The Revolutionary Army, along with the Blackwald Company mercenaries (totaling approximately 10,000 soldiers), reach New Providence.
  • 17th of Tobias’s Bounty
    • Sir Erik Othaman along with the remaining Imperial Loyalists (approximately 1,500 soldiers), surrender New Providence to Emperor Philip III before departing to Fort Linnord to establish a military junta. They would later return to the ISA after being ordered to do so by General Erik var Ruthern.
  • 18th of Tobias’s Bounty
    • Emperor Philip III, along with his retinue, march into the imperial palace, where he holds his first imperial court session and all peers present swear loyalty.
  • 19th of Tobias’s Bounty
    • The Crown of Elvenesse recognizes Philip III as the rightful Holy Orenian Emperor.
    • Philip III is crowned Holy Orenian Emperor in the Basilica of the Argentine Star by High Pontiff Everard VI before a crowd of over 12,000 spectators.
