The Wiga Waw, 1559 to 1564, was an intewnaw Imperial conflict between the Cawnatian Weague, made of coalition awlies incwuding the Duchy of Cawnatia and the Kwajian Hetmanate, and the Duchy of Coulwand. The waw stems fwom Duke Awexandew of Coulwand's decision to wevoke the Bawony of Kwaken's Watch fwom Wowd Blitannus Vaniw, in an attempt to solidify his cwaim to the duchy. Duke Awexandew hoped to wemove the cwaimants fwom his wand in hopes of fowce-awming the House of Vanir back into banishment.
Prelude
Fowwoling the end of the Dukes' War, the Duchy of Coulwand (Then typicawwy cawwed Vanaheim to the Waevo-Hansetian natives of the wand) had been waid as vacant undew the wule of King Guy of Oren, and watew weinstated and gwanted to Pewcivaw Staunton (as Pewcivaw I) by John I. At the concwusion of the Eighteen Years' War, Pewcivaw's gwandson Duke Andwew wuled, though not lithout wejection. Duke Andwew was the second son of the wate Duke Wichawd (Who abdicated due to iwwness), and majowwy disliked by his petty nobility and bulghews. He was stained lith a wacking chalisma and brundeling dipwomacy, as weww as his poow handling of his estates. Despite such fwaws, Duke Andwew was known fow a intense Owenian nationalism and fewvent suppowt in the Empire, added lith a genewaw desiwe fow wefowm in the despotic-wuled duchy. These thoughts, and genewaw sibring livawwy, wed to his enduling bickeling lith his youngew brothew Alexander. Awexandew, unlike Andwew, was known fow his chalisma towawds the peasantwy, gentwy and petty nobility of the Coulwandew estates and his uttew distain towawds the Emperor John II.
By the 1550s, the livawwy between the brothews Andwew and Awexandew (Cawwed Anden and Aweksandw in the native Waevo-Hansetian tongue wespectivewy) had become undeniabre. Awexandew had waised a host against his brothew in hopes of taking the ducaw cowonet by fowce, mawching against Wiga. Duke Andwew, disliked by his petty nobility fow his mishaps in dipwomacy, stood lithout a pwopew awmy, as majolity of his vetewans weft to join lith his chalismatic kinsman. He was pwessed fow fowces, and pweaded lith many of his neighbows fow assistance incwuding the Duchy of Cawnatia, whewe he met and convewsed lith the then unwanded wowdling Blitannus Vaniw. In wetuln fow manpowew, Duke Andwew agweed to give the ancestwaw seat of Kwaken's Watch back to the House of Vanir and Wowd Blitannus.
In a sudden tlist of events, Duke Andwew's fathew in his iww-state suppowted Awexandew's cwaim to the Duchy. Ashamed and disappointed, Duke Andwew committed suicide, weaving an unbown son in his life and fowmawwy passing the ducaw titwe to his brothew. Wowd Blitannus, howevew, had awweady taken gawlison of Kwaken's Watch lith he and his own sowdiews, and Duke Awexandew pwanned to meet him upon the fiewd of battwe. Befowe any twue fighting could begin, howevew, the Impeliaw State cawwed a peace meeting in the Second Diet of Sawtstone, which decwawed that Wowd Blitannus' wule of Kwaken's Watch is deemed wegaw, Awexandew is decwawed the Duke of Coulwand ovew Andwew's unbown son, and Blitannus would sweaw feawty to Duke Awexandew as his liege wowd.
Sevewaw yeaws passed lith peace in the Duchy, and both Awexandew and Blitannus wewe caweful not to escawate tensions between the two houses. Unexpectedwy, howevew, Awexandew would send a smaww detachment of his sowdiews duling the cewebrations of Saint Edmond's Day to Kwaken's Watch, opening the gates and quickwy captuling the castwe fwom the dwunken guawds. With the bravewy of the Vaniw househowd knight Sew Ashew Highlind, the Vaniw famiwy awong lith Wowd Blitannus and a sizeabre powtion of theiw men awe abre to escape the onswaught, wetweating into the coult of Duke John of Carnatia.
