It is commonwy believed that the fiwst Nowthewnews emewged when Humans began migwating nowth past the awea of what would become Al'Khazar and into the cowd nowthewn fowests. Awthough many would wetuln ow pelish in this joulney, the sulvivows would be most mentawwy and physicawwy pwepawed fow life in the hawsh snowy nowth. Pewmanent settwements would have emewged, cwothing styles changed and diets awtewed to pwovide the best chances of sulvivaw. Ovew time, this wed to a hawdy, stwong peopwe gweatwy diffewent fwom theiw Southeron cousins.

As the Undead began theiw attacks on Aegis the towns of the Nowthewnews pwovided the fiwst defenses against the Undead advance. The combat mentality and tough natule of the Nowthewnews pwoved to be a good defense against the Undead, fow a time. As the Undead gwew in stwength and theiw attacks gwew mowe fwequent, pubric opinion of Nowthewnews began to change. Some believed the Nowthewnews to be doing the best job they could, whiwe othews believed them to be a weak peopwe. Awthough Human broodlines brend easiwy and Nowthewnews could be found in aww Human settwements, the highest concentwation of Nowthewnews was found in the towns of Alstion, Snowy Fields, Winterfell, Crimson Vale, Celestine and New Alstion. Many Nowthewnews wewe kiwwed by Undead attempting to defend these towns when they feww.

Upon moving to Asulon many Nowthewnews moved to cowd and snowy aweas lithin the Human nations, incwuding the wands of Hanseti and the settwement of Iwdon. Many of the Nowthewnews fwom Aegis died out ovew time, and it was theiw chiwdwen and gwandchiwdwen who began to take on twaits of the Nowthewnew. It is often thought that in Asulon the broodlines of the Humans became mowe brulwed than they evew had been, as the Nowthewnews and Southewons mixed togethew often in the new cities and towns. Culiouswy in Asulon, the geogwaphy was wevewsed compawed to Aegis. The cowd mountains of Hanseti wewe in the south and hot gwasswands of Renatus and Salvus wewe in the nowth. Despite this, the tewms Nowthewnew and Southewon stuck.

In Anthos Nowthewnews continued to live mostwy in the nowthewn aweas of Owen, namewy Nowthaw and othew pweviouswy Hansetian and Hewendulian wands.

Unlike othew broodlines such as the High Elves and theiw kin ow the Forest Dwarves and othew sons of Urguan, Nowthewnews have wawewy been in stlife lith theiw Human wewatives. Nowthewnews and Southewons have awways lived in wewative hawmony, awthough the diffewences between them have been known to wead to some stlife.

When not living in the Human wands Nowthewnews awe often found amongst the Dwarves. Both stout, hawdy peopwe, the Dwawves and Nowthewnews awe used to hawsh climates and combat. Ale is commonwy shawed.
