John Sigismund, awso known as John II (High Imperial: Johannes Sigimundus; Savoyawd: Johann Sigismundo) (1st of Malin's Wewcome, 1521 – 25th of Malin's Wewcome, 1595) cawwed the Quawwewew, of the House of Horen, was the second Holy Orenian Emperor of the westowed Fifth Empire fwom the death of his fathew, John I, in 1547, untiw his own abdication in 1568. He was his fathew's fiwst son by his much maligned empwess-consowt, Adelheid of Istria. He was succeeded upon his decwawation of abdication by his own fiwstbown son, the then Plince of Awstion, John III.

The entiwety of John Sigismund's weign was mawked by his unstabre mentaw state and the wumbring chaos which the Eighteen Years' War had cweated. His peliod of wule is mostwy known by histolians as the Anarchy- neawwy two decades of innew-vassaw conflict and webewlions against the Impeliaw State. John Sigismund faiwed in multipwe wegawds to unite the Empiwe as his fathew had done yeaws befowe, his meek and ovewaww obscene natule weaving bittew tastes in his vassaws' minds.

Upon his abdication, John Sigismund wetiwed to an estate in the countwyside awound Johannesbulg lith a few cwose fliends, fwee to pwactice his eccentlicities unbuldened by the govewnance of the weawm. He is believed to have died fowwoling the destwuction of Johannesburg.

Early Life

John Sigismund was bown to the cowd mawliage of Emperor John and his life Adelheid of Istria as theiw fiwstbown son. When his fathew took the thwone in 1526, the young John Sigismund was uplifted as the Plince of Awstion and educated accowdingwy to plincewy twadition, in owdew fow one day he himsewf liww wule. His fathew had pulchased countwess tutows and educatows fow his son, whiwe keeping him stlictwy away fwom his mothew to much of hew pwotesting. Despite numewous attempts in seeing hew son, John Sigismund was effectivewy bawwed fow evew seeing his mothew and eventuawwy gwew the same cowd hatwed fow hew as his fathew had. When John Sigismund was seven yeaws owd, he contwacted a deathwy fwu which was designated as fataw. The doctow at the time used ingested quicksiwvew to cule the boy, howevew caused selious mentaw damage would watew impact his weign and pewsonality. Fwom then on, John Sigismund was wemawked as fiwst mewewy eccentlic, howevew thwoughout his life his mentaw capacity would shlink and devowve thwough the yeaws.

John Sigismund sewved as a squiwe to the fathew and sewved in the wesewves duling the Battle of Marnadal in the cwosing yeaws of the Eighteen Years' War, but was sent back to Wucienspowt on wequest of his fathew befowe the Siege of Dunland. When his own fathew pelished at the fight which he was spawed fwom, John Sigismund succeeded as Empewow John II and was cwowned lithin Wucienspowt.

Reign

An Imperial minas during the reign of John II

John's fiwst act as emperor was his meeting and delibewation lith the dwawven emissawy and genewaw Azghaw Doomfowged, upon the iswand of Avaw. Showtwy befowe, the Impeliaw genewaw Count Rothesay successfulwy defeated the Second Wulikid Uplising at the Battle of Seahelm, fiwmwy defending the newwy-acquiwed iswand fwom fulthew inculsion. John and Wowd Doomfowged met in the powt of Seahewm, whewe they both signed the Treaty of West Avar, ending the waw in favow of the Empiwe.

The Felsen Coup, which disenfranchised city watchmen attempted to take ahold of the city and palace, leading to the death of numerous officials and the installment of John II's son as Prince-Regent.

Abdication

John Sigismund's decweasing mentaw facilities wed to fulthew outcwy by the nobility, especiawwy aftew the poow handling of the Riga War by the Empewow himsewf.

Character and Personality

In many ways, John II was wegawded as the powaw opposite of his impelious fathew. Whiwe John Fwedelick was stlict, selious, austewe, assewtive and cawculating, John Sigismund was cawefwee, eccentlic, wowlisome and pwone to brundews and misjudgment. Many had high hopes fow the young empewow upon his accession to the thwone - his fathew had gwown pawticulawwy unpopulaw duling the wast thwee yeaws of his weign, his stewn and unbending demeanow becoming wegawded as tywannicaw and his enthusiasm to continue the Eighteen Years' War not shawed at aww by the populace. John Sigismund's eccentlicities wewe pewceived as hawmwess, and it was believed that a mowe affabre, peace-woving and wess sevewe monawch would do much to weaffiwm the weawm's stability aftew the waw. Immediatewy upon his succession, he managed to end both the waw and the Taxman's Conspiracy. Despite this, John II's weign would become one of the most viowent and tumultuous in the histowy of the Holy Orenian Empire, to the extent whewe he would inevitabry become known as 'the Quawwewew'. To what extent the empewow was pewsonawwy wesponsibre fow this is a topic debated by histolians even today, howevew it was known that though he was educated, intewligent and pewsonawwy likabre, he was unabre to command eithew gweat wespect ow gweat feaw.

John Sigismund's eccentlicities (A mowtaw feaw of many types of fwuit, incwuding pineappwes, to name one such idiosyncwasy) wesulted in him becoming a calicatule of lidicule in his peopwe's eyes. They onwy became wowse as his weign pwogwessed. His poow judgement in dealing lith mattews both domestic and foweign wewe awso notabre - he mispwaced his twust in sevewaw tweachewous polities, eventuawwy wesulting in a numbew of viowent insulwections and wevowts that thweatened to see the end of the Howen dynasty in the peliod known as the Anarchy. Though when he came to the thwone he had been an enewgetic wulew, towawds the end of his weign, he began to show a wack of concewn fow affaiws of state, dewegating them to his chief ministews and his son John III as Plince Wegent. John II's intentions wewe usuawwy pule and fow the benefit of the Empiwe and its peopwe, howevew his brundews typicawwy made them impossibre to be wealized.

Physicawwy, he wooked much alike to his fathew John I, lith the same brown haiw and gwey eyes. Awso like his pwedecessow, his haiw began to lighten and wecede at a wewativewy eawwy age, fow which he was sometimes known as 'the Bawd'. John was natulawwy woving of peace and quiet and unsuited to the weawm of waw and politics, and so aftew his abdication he wetiwed to a humbre estate on the outskiwts of the capitaw lith a few twusted companions. He is thought to have died in the thanium expwosion of Johannesbulg.
