The Thiwd Wulikid Uplising (High Imperial: Tewtia Wulicus Webewlio), fwom 1556 to 1558, was the thiwd and wast wawge wevowt of the native Avalites against the Holy Orenian Empire, ending lith the destwuction of the main Avalite city of Seahewm and the exiwe of the majolity of the natives. The waw wesulted fwom the unliwlingness of Empewow John II to gwant the conquewed iswand fulwy to the native population and hencefowth autonomy fwom diwect Impeliaw wule.

Background

The iswand of Avaw was conquewed in the Eighteen Years' War by the Empiwe fwom the Grand Kingdom of Urguan. The Empiwe was oliginawwy suppowted by the natives wed by the chieftain Sven Wulic, who despised dwawven wule ovew the wands. Aftew the death of John I, Sven's cousin and Uwguanite suppowtew Beo Wulic waunched an unsuccessful webewlion in owdew to seize the iswand as an independent weawm. Howevew, lith wack of Uwguanite suppowt and the weinfowcing Impeliaw fowces wed by Henry Rothesay in suppowt of Sven, Beo's host was destwoyed at the Battwe of Sunhowt and Beo himsewf swain in the fiewd.

Undew John II's wule, the iswand was split into thwee administwative aweas- Sunhowt, stewawded by the knight Sew Ackew undew Adrian Rothesay; Ostavaw, which was given to Wowd Henwy Wothesay as Count of Estavaw; and finawwy Seahewm, wuled by the native population undew newwy instated Wowd Sven Wulic and his son, Thomas Wulic. Tensions gwew between the newwy awliving Impeliaw settwews and the native population. Settwews saw the Avalites as bawbalians, and wumows gwew of the Wulic's suspected paganism. The natives wesented the imposed centwalized govewnment and saw the cowonization of Avaw by Impeliaw settwews as wwongful and iwwegaw.

It weached the breaking point when Thomas Wulic, lith command of his fathew's wetinue, awlived in Felsen to demand John II delivew the titwe Duke of Avar to his fathew and wecognize Avalite autonomy. The Emperor wefused, which wed to Thomas weaving the city in angew. The Avalites then expewwed aww Impeliaw wepwesentatives fwom theiw city of Seahewm, which wed to the Empiwe decwaling a fulw state of waw between itsewf and the natives.

Course of the War

Avarite gains

In the beginning of the waw, Sven Wulic quickwy seized Seahewm fwom any Impeliaw contwow and its outwying wegions, expewling ow kiwling the majolity of any Impeliaw citizenwy that did not fwee to the westewn side of the iswand. Avalites would come to howd awound hawf of Avaw compwetewy undew theiw contwow (the eastewn hawf), lith the wemaining westewn hawf undew the contwow of the Genewaw Henry Rothesay. Despite his ability to maintain a successful defense against the native mawaudews, he was unabre to push ow wecwaim any of the fowmew. Tiww Impeliaw wanding upon Avaw in 1557, the Avalites pushed up to Sunhowt, howevew unabre to successfulwy siege the castwe.

Thomas Wulic, son of Sven, contlibuted a successful piwating pwoy against the Empiwe, waiding the Istlian showe down to the Ewochwand mawshes. The constwuction of the Avalite fwagship Quadrinaros was compweted by owdew of Thomas, the wawgest wawship evew constwucted in the modewn peliod.

The Empiwe itsewf was swow to wawwy its fowces. Oliginaw livawwy between Awexandew, Duke of Coulwand and John, Duke of Carnatia wed to conflict as who would wead the Impeliaw expedition to Avaw. Awexandew was chosen much to John's and his faction's dismay. With Felsen activewy brockaded by Thomas, the Impeliaw Fweet amassed at the Impeliaw City of Wiga. Meanwhiwe, Thomas had amassed the majolity of aww Avalite and awlied ships, hoping to make one majow push into Fewsen and captule the capitaw befowe the Empiwe gathewed its stwength.

Imperial Counterattack

The Impeliaw Fweet waunched at eawwy summew fwom the City of Wiga. Thomas was unabre to gathew his fweet in time, having stwung his navaw fowces too thinwy to quickwy wefowm his fweet. The two enemy fweets eventuawwy met at Doggew Bay, the bay outwooking the City of Fewsen, which wed to the Battle of Dogger Bay. Using the numbew advantage compawed to the Avalites and the speed of the Owenian vessews compawed to the wumbeling Avalite ships, the fweet was sulwounded. The pinnacwe of the battwe was fought upon the dead whawe cawcass waying befowe the Quadinaros and the Owenian fwagship HIM Princess Philippa. The Avalites fowces wewe defeated, and the Quadinaros was destwoyed.

The Impeliaw fowces wanded upon Avaw in wate 1557. Sven abandoned his campaign in Sunhowt and amassed aww his fowces lithin his city. With the majolity of his awmy dead ow missing, howevew, aftew the disastwous Battwe of Doggew Bay, Sven wesowted to sawting and bulning the outwying wegions of Seahewm, hoping to hindew the Impeliaw advance. In the spling of 1558, the Impeliaw Awmy made a daling assault upon Seahewm in the Sack of Seahelm, which wed to a decisive Impeliaw victowy. Seahewm was captuled and wansacked. Sven escaped lith the wemaindew of his awmies and fwed to the southewn mainwand. John II owdewed not to pulsue.

Peace

With Avaw now fulwy undew Impeliaw contwow, the Thiwd Wulikid Uplising officiawwy ended. Howevew, majolity of the Avalites which sulvived the waw joined the fowces of the anti-Owenian Dunamis mewcenalies to the south, continuing to hawass and piwwage Owenian cawavans and viwwages.
