Lyrics

The song is commonly sung with no music, however it is not rare to see drums played in tune to the chant:

Sailing over the Dogger Bay now wasn’t it a treat?
The wind was blowing east north east, we had to give a sheet!
You ought to seen them runnin, the winds ablowin afar,
On a passage from the Dogger Bay to rotten Ostavar!

Watch out, the Vierathan, shes a proper jubby-jewel,
Give her a wink and let her rip, with the boys to see them thru!
You ought to seen them runnin, the winds afar,
On a passage from the Dogger Bay to rotten Ostavar!

The admiral, the Lord Courland, he loves a pint of good ale.
Our mate he's a Lancefeld sir, man’s as tough as a nails
I heard the King Tresery comes from the Elven Isle.
And take a look at our old Duke Jan, he gets the bugger wild!

Watch out, the Vierathan, shes a proper jubby-jewel,
Give her a wink and let her rip, with the boys to see them thru!
You ought to seen them runnin, the winds ablowin afar,
On a passage from the Dogger Bay to rotten Ostavar!

Watch out, the Vierathan, as below the sea she came.
High heels and painted toes, Maude’s on the game.
Maude’s is apart of them house maids, can’t she cut a shine?
She can do a double shuffle on the knickerbocker line!

Watch out, the Vierathan, shes a proper jubby-jewel,
Give her a wink and let her rip, with the boys to see them thru!
You ought to seen them runnin, the winds ablowin afar
On a passage from the Dogger Bay to rotten Ostavar!

We are Johnny’s boys who make a noise when home from sea.
We get right drunk and roll on the floor, we have a jubilee.
We get right drunk and full of beer, we roll all over the floor.
And ‘til the gallows hang Rat Tom, we’ll go to sea for more.

Watch out, the Vierathan, shes a proper jubby-jewel,
Give her a wink and let her rip, with the boys to see them thru!
You ought to seen them runnin, the winds ablowin afar
On a passage from the Dogger Bay to rotten Ostavar!
