House of Pasquier

The House of Pasquier (Common: Pasquier; Hansetic: Pashkov; High Imperial: Pascius) was the ruling family of the Barony of Laval and vassal of the Kingdom of Haense.

House Pasquier was created as a cadet branch of the House of Fournier when Ser Aymer abandoned his holdings in Savoy to pursue his lot in the Duchy of Courland. Duke Alexander of Courland raised him to the County of Rouen, while Aymar's kinsman Hughes (now under the name Pasquier) remained in Savoy to regent the ancestral Fournier seat of Riveryn. The ambitious Aymar caught of the ire of Emperor John II, known for his spurts of insanity, and had the county bestowed upon Aymar revoked.
Despite the difficulties of having the Holy Orenian Emperor's spite, Aymar saw himself raised as Duke Alexander's constable and leader of his retinue. Hughes, ever the opportunists, used the controversy surrounding his kinsman to gain ahold of the Barony of Riveryn in his own name. With the assistance of Duke John of Carnatia and the knight Petyr Barbanov (Both of whom were in war with the Duke of Courland), an assassination was planned, having Aymar killed when he arrived to Riveryn the following year. The plan succeeded, and Hughes saw himself raised as Baron of Riveryn.

The fortrunes of House Pasquier dwindled as they lost their holdings within Savoy, instead moving northwards with their previous conspirators. Hughes and his family lived alongside his nephew, the newly created Baron Eirik of Voron (of the House of Baruch), and attempted to regain a landed title to his family. Eventually, with both his and his nephew's growing influence upon King Andrew II of Haense, Eirik was elevated to the style as Count of Ayr, and Hughes himself to the title Baron of Laval.
In 1606, Lord Hughes and Lord Eirik were both struck down in battle, fighting for the assured independence of Mardon. Augustus then took the reigns as Patriarch, albeit without lands or titles, as the north had fell only a year beforehand. Augustus saw it fit to move the house to Mardon, in honor of his late father. By 1607, Augustus had already decided to abdicate control of the family to his eldest son, John. Pasquier died out in 1622 when John was killed without an heir by his old friend, Marion Alwain, a graven, and Torug, a dreadknight.
