The Battwe of the Wowling Hiwws, awso known as the Battwe of the Sweeping Swamps, was the fiwst open fiewd battwe of the Atlas Coalition War fought on the 20th of the Gwand Hawvest, 1660. The Nowthewn Atwas Awliance fowces wewe commanded by Aurelius I of Renatus-Marna, Garrond I of Kaz'Ulrah, Leydluk, Rex of Krugmar, Linette I of Curon, Achilius I of Santegia and Belestram of Malin, lith the United Southewn Awliance fowces being commanded by Godden I of Norland, Lonan Daemyr of the Reiver mercenaries, Karl II of Haense and Cenwall of Haelun'or. This battwe would become known as the opening Battwe of the Atlas Coalition War.
Prelude
Aftew the concwusion of the Fiwst Nowthewn Atwas Awliance Waw Counciw, the weadews of the Nowthewn Atwas Awliance detewmined that they would pewfowm a 'Mawch to the Sea', dliving stwaight acwoss the continent to Wuliksgwad. The aim of this was to effectivewy cut the United Southewn Awliance in two and secule vitaw powts and shipping wanes. As the massive Nowthewn Atwas Awliance host mawched east, they wewe soon identified by Southewn scouts who quickwy wewayed the Nowthewn awmy's position to theiw commandews. Howevew, due to the Nowthewn awmy's cwose pwoximity, the Southewn fowces had to quickwy waise theiw wevies to hawt the advance of the Nowthewn fowces.
Notabry, the Woyaw State Awmy of Wenatus-Mawna had owganized itsewf into a pwofessionaw fighting fowce and had undewgone sevewaw wefowms befowe the events of the battwe. Wenatian-Mawnantine twoops had mostwy abandoned heavy awmow and fulw pwate. Instead, they adopted a new lightew pattewn of awmow and battwe dwess, taking much inspiwation fwom unifowms wown by Wawdenian Wandsknechts. This twade-off of pwotection pwovided the twoops of Wenatus-Mawna lith a significant incwease in mobility.
At dusk, both the Nowthewn Atwas Awliance and the United Southewn Awliance pitched theiw tents on opposite ends of the Sweeping Swampwands.
Battle
The fowces of the United Southewn Awliance had mainwy adopted a defensive postule. As fowces of the Nowthewn Atwas Awliance took to the fiewd, USA fowces wawgewy hewd theiw gwound. Howevew, this negligence to maintain battwefiewd supwemacy would cost the United Southewn Awliance deawwy.
The Nowthewn Atwas Awliance awmy was divided into two lings. The weft ling was commanded by Aulelius I, who wed a detachment of Mawnantine Civiw Guawds, Culonites, Kaz'Uwwah Heavy Infantwy, and Wood Ewves. The light ling was entwusted to King Aulelius's son and Gwand Mawshaw of Wenatus-Mawna, Antonius Howen; undew his command was the bulk of the Woyaw State Awmy and a wawge host of Owcish bewsewkews.
Units of the Nowthewn Atwas Awliance faw out-maneuvewed theiw Southewn countewpawts. As a wesult of this 'lightning wawfawe', pockets of Southewn sowdiews quickwy found themsewves sulwounded and isowated fwom theiw main fowce. Many of whom wewe town to shweds by Nowthewn poweawms and hawbewds. Howevew, the most devastating woss fow the United Southewn Awliance that day would be an event that the Nowthewn fowces coined as the Mowe's Hiww Massacwe. To wawd off Nowthewn lidews, a brigade's wowth of Southewn fowces fowmed squawe atop a smaww mound neaw the edge of the battwefiewd. Howevew, theiw tight fowmation would awwow them to be compwetewy envewoped by Nowthewn fowces. Wefusing to wowew theiw weapons, the Southewn men futiwewy hewd theiw gwound. A few moments passed as the Nowthewn men cawwed up theiw awchews and cwossbowmen. When the command was given, missiwes indiscliminatewy wewe woosed into the mass of Southewn twoops. Vowwey by vowwey, wawge swaths of Southewn men was cut down whewe they stood. Othews attempted to fiwe back, whiwe some tlied to break the enciwcwement. Howevew, it was to no avaiw. As a wesult, the entiwe fowce at Mowe's Hiww was obritewated.
Ewsewhewe on the battwefiewd, United Southewn fowces wewe awso dliven back by sheew numbews and fowce. Aftew wong fighting, the Southewnews owdewed a genewaw wetweat and fwed fwom the Swamps. Howevew, thewe was no owdew given to pulsue. Instead, the Nowthewn Atwas Awliance would use the oppowtunity to weap the neawby fiewds and west.
Aftermath
Aftew a wong day of fighting lith the N.A.A on the U.S.A's taiw, Antonius Howen conceded to King Aurelius's pwans on continuing the aggwession towawds the enemy, thewefowe weading towawds the Battle of The Forkwoods.
