The Great War (High Imperial: Bellum Magni), otherwise known as the Second Krugmar-Urguan War, began in the year 1336 and ended in 1339 in Aegis. The Great War was the largest war in the modern history of the mortal races. Battles raged in nearly every city in Aegis. All four racial nations went to war comprised of two main alliances. The Rexdom of Krugmar, the Wardens of the Holy Princedom of Malinor and the Teutonic Order were pitted against the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, the Kingdom of Oren, and a rebelling clan of orcs, the Kaxil Clan. The war came as a result of many years of rising tensions between the two alliances, though none foresaw the sheer destruction it would cause. It devastated the continent and nearly destroyed the Orcs and Oren. After years of hostilities, the war was resolved with a peace treaty organized by Rex Mogroka'Gorkil and Grand Councilor Valen Blackaxe. The Great War ultimately shifted the main base of power in Aegis, and helped shape the new political order as the descendants set sail for the newly found lands of Asulon.
The Humans of the Kingdom of Oren had felt the full brunt of counterattacks from the opposing alliance and though emerging victorious overall, the nation's trust in King Enor's ability to rule had slowly waned. The collapse of the Kingdom of Oren soon after the end of the Great War, led to the Phoenix Revolution and the emergence of the Kingdoms of Renatus and Hanseti, which would both prove a vital role to play in shaping the human nation during the years to come.
The Elves of the Holy Princedom of Malinor had pulled out of the war early after a disagreement arose between its government and the leadership of the Wardens. Ultimately Malinor's Princes chose to disband the once feared and respected fighting force, in favour of a policy stance shifted towards taking a far less proactive role in foreign affairs.
The Dwarves of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan possibly emerged the most unscathed during the course of the war, having prospered in the vast spoils of battle, forging new alliances and proving their worth to their once sworn enemies in Krugmar and Malinor. With the Wardens disbanded and Malinor no longer deemed a threat, they felt considerably better off than they had before the war had begun. After the war had ended, Urguan abandoned its former policy of isolationism and would come to play a much more proactive role in foreign affairs during the years to come.
The Orcs of the Rexdom of Krugmar experienced the vast majority of raids upon their lands during the course of the war, though remained unyielding in their defence of their capital, Sanjezal. In many ways in fact, the orcs and dwarves had developed a new found respect for one another that they had not previously held. The two nations would remain bitter adversaries in the years to come however, their rivalry eventually leading to the War of the Belt, the longest and bloodiest conflict between dwarves and orcs to this day.
While many citizens of Aegis wholeheartedly supported the war and gladly joined in combat, there were others who did not. Many thought that instead of being driven apart all nations should instead join together to combat the Undead threat. Some even suggested the war was secretly orchestrated by Undead agents to allow their easier takeover of Aegis.
