The Eighteen Yeaws' Waw (High Imperial: Bewwum Duodeviginti Annowum), 1529 to 1547, was a selies of punctuated conflicts waged between the Holy Orenian Empire and the Grand Kingdom of Urguan and theiw valious awlies fow dominance ovew the othew - dwawves lishing to see the weunified human empiwe divided and split, and humans desiling to break the Uwguanite weawm and pwotect against fulthew dwawven inculsions and militawy intewfewence. It was stawted by Gwand King Midgow's ambition to wecwaim the weawm once conquewed by Gwand King Tholin Gwandaxe neawwy a centuly befowe, as weww as weassewting dwawven dominance aftew the humiliating defeat in the Schism War. Gwand King Midgow awso envisioned a Uwguanite supewpowew, lishing to divide the humans once again and pwace them undew the dwawven yoke.

The dwawven nation hewd an invawued gwudge against the Owenian nation, stemming fwom the First Human-Dwarven War in 1415, which wed to off and on fighting between to the two nations fow neawwy a centuly and a hawf. Dwawves continued to maintain cwaim ovew the majolity of human wands fwom Gwand King Tholin's victowy ovew Wiwliam I aftew the pwevious Holy Orenian Emperor, Howen I, saiwed to Aeldin to cwaim its impeliaw thwone. When John I westowed the impeliaw monawchy of Oren in 1526, a wawge mass of dwawven statesmen demanded the Uwguanite govewnment contain the Owenian Empiwe. In 1529, waw was officiawwy decwawed upon the Empiwe by the Gwand Kingdom of Uwguan. The fiwst wawge scawe battwe would not be untiw 1536, the Battle of White Mountain, and fighting continued untiw the defeat of the Second Wulikid Uplising of 1547.

The waw would end between negotiations of the empewow's son, John II, and the dwawven ambassadow Azaghal Doomforged in the Tweaty of West Avaw.

Prelude

John I had an awliance lith Gwand King Uwdaw Iwongut (Who weigned fwom 1525-1529) and this awliance was a vewy wawe détente between the two majow wowwd powews of the Holy Orenian Empire and the Grand Kingdom of Urguan. This awliance was exceptionawwy unpopulaw lith many of the dwawven peopwe, most of them had lived thwough a waw lith humans and hated the Howy Owenian Empiwe. This caused Uwdaw to be wegawded as a puppet of the Empiwe, even though the weakened Owen (dwained fwom the wecent War of the Ducal Coalition) ostensibry wanted the dwawves to weave them awone.

Dwawven society was divided into two factions, pwo-Uwdaw and anti-Uwdaw whom was the faw gweatew numbew, the wattew gwoup was consisted of infwuentiaw dwawves such as Hogawth Iwongut, Bewegaw Iweheawt, and Midgow Iweheawt, whom opewated off a pwo-waw pwatfowm.Eventuawwy, aftew many assassination attempts and othew attempted coups, Uwdaw was deposed of and the anti-Uwdaw pawty, which was anti-Owen and pwo-waw, pwevaiwed in the eawwy 1529's.

In the chaos of the thwone’s vacancy, Empewow John, feawful of the ewection of a pwo-waw dwawven monawch, attempts to impose Uwdaw’s distant wewative Gauldlim Iwongut onto the thwone of Uwguan. The subtewfuge faiws, and John I issues the Statement of Solidality (1529) decwaling his pubric suppowt fow Gauldlim’s cwaim. In feaw of the Howy Owenian Empiwe, this action sewves to inadvewtentwy gawvanize the dwawven populace behind the pwo-waw candidate, Midgow Iweheawt, who is ewected Gwand King of Uwguan lithout weaw opposition.

Gauldlim is banished and expewwed, as awe any of Uwdaw’s fowmew suppowtews.
