The Novellen Civil War, also referred to as the Orenian Civil War and The Brother's War, is a major internal conflict between Peter Augustus Novellen, and Frederick Charles Novellen. Due to Prince Peter and Prince Frederick both being sons of the deceased Philip III, Holy Orenian Emperor, the War earned its nickname as The Brother's War. The Conflict was sparked when both Emperor Philip III and Empress Anastasia I both mysteriously passed away immediately following the conclusion of the War of the Wigs. Such an unexpected passing of both the ruling Monarchs of the Empire threw the realm into chaos, with two factions forming almost immediately.

Timeline

  • 72 S.A.
    • Anastasia I, overcome with grief from the death of her husband, passes away on the shores of Mardon. Her death is witnessed by three of her children, Victoria Augusta, Anna Ulyssa, and Frederick Charles.
    • Motivated by his mother's death, Frederick Charles rallies the Bannermen of Mardon and marches to the Imperial Capital of New Providence. He is met with open gates and his forces quickly occupied the city. After breaching the gates to Aster Hall, Frederick ascended to the dais, where he announced the dissolution of the Holy Orenian Empire and proclaimed himself King of Oren.
    • Several imperial vassals, namely, the House of Novellen-Aldersberg, House of Galbraith and House of Komnenos immediately swear fealty to Frederick Charles.
    • Westwards in the Grenz region of the Empire, a faction sponsored by the Orenian branch of House Ruthern proclaim, Philip III's and Anastasia I's eldest son, Peter Augustus, as Holy Orenian Empire.
