The Brothers' War, also referred to as the Orenian War for Succession or the Novellen Civil War, is a major internal conflict between Peter Augustus Novellen, and Frederick Charles Novellen. Due to Prince Peter and Prince Frederick both being sons of the deceased Philip III, Holy Orenian Emperor, the war earned its name as the Brother's War. The conflict began when both Emperor Philip III and Empress Anastasia I mysteriously passed away almost immediately following the conclusion of the War of the Wigs. The unexpected passing of both the ruling Monarchs of the Empire threw the realm into chaos, with two factions forming to claim the throne.

Timeline
- 72 S.A.
- Anastasia I, overcome with grief from the death of her husband, passes away on the shores of Mardon. Her death is witnessed by three of her children, Victoria Augusta, Anna Ulyssa, and Frederick Charles.
- Motivated by his mother's death, Frederick Charles rallies the Bannermen of Mardon and marches to the Imperial Capital of New Providence. He is met with open gates and his forces quickly occupied the city. After breaching the gates of Aster Hall, Frederick ascended to the dais, where he announced the dissolution of the Holy Orenian Empire and proclaimed himself King of Oren.
- Several imperial vassals, namely, the County of Aldersberg, Viscounty of Rivia, and Barony of St. Lothar immediately swear fealty to Frederick Charles.
- Westwards in the Grenz region of the Empire, a faction sponsored by the Duchy of Reutov proclaim, Philip III's and Anastasia I's eldest son, Peter Augustus, as Holy Orenian Emperor.
- The Barony of Artois declares its support in favor of the Pro-Frederick faction. Meanwhile, the Duchy of Azor, Duchy of Sunholdt, Barony of Darkwood declare their support for the Pro-Peter faction.
- Soon after Artois's declaration, the County of Provins declares its support for the Pro-Frederick faction.
- Despite initially swearing fealty to Frederick Charles during his court session in Providence, the Barony of Pompourelia declares support for the Pro-Peter faction.
- Overcome with stress due to the war, the Barony of Brighthill declares neutrality.
