This is the page for Hyspian history as a whole. The Kingdom of Hyspia (Reino de Hyspia in Hyspanic), or simply Hyspia was a nation that formerly resided in the heart of the Wildlands territory in Arcas, west of the Cloud Temple. Its first and last capital city was the settlement of Tierre Natal. After existing for around five years, the Kingdom was vassalized into Osanora, a barony of Sutica. This made Hyspia cease to be nothing more than a landless vassal-state, however the royalty still uses royal titles.

History

The people of Hyspia first came together into one collective nation at the formation of the Barony of Hyspia, which was founded and led by Cesar I of Hyspia around the year 1790. Two short years later, Cesar I would go on to declare the reformation of the Barony into the Kingdom of Hyspia, and then becoming known simply as Hyspia after it was absorbed into Osanora and ceased independence around 1795. From then on, it became a landless Vassal-state under the jurisdiction of Osanora. The leader of Osanora would then be traditionally placed on the Corte de Osanora (Council of Osanora in Common)

King Cesar of House Rivera (r. 1790-1795)

The first undisputed ruler of the Hyspian People, Cesar the First had led the tribe across the northern mountains and into the Wildlands. There, He led them to the very middle of the Wildlands, where he ordered that the Hyspian people begin removing trees and clearing the land in order to build a City for the Hyspians to finally settle down in, which he named Tierre Natal to signify that the Hyspians would move no longer. He also ordered the construction of the wall around the city to protect from raiders after being forced to organize small defenses against constant raids. He was later killed by Pedro Gonzalez in an assassination.

Along with the Protection wall, Cesar also ordered the formation of the Hyspian Militia, which was the predecessor of the later Hyspian Monarchist Army. With the completion of the wall, Cesar issued the largely popular yet controversial 'Declaration of Hyspian Nationalism' which declared the Barony would reform as the Kingdom of Hyspia, cementing its spot in History as one of the few Wildland nations to follow through with settlement rather than abandon the Wildlands for Mainland prospects. Along with the Declaration, Cesar also declared the reformation of the Hyspian Militia into the Hyspian Monarchist Army, meaning it was to go through several structural reforms. He would then begin establishing diplomatic ties with the Kingdom of Norland. Another big key event in Cesar's reign would be the Mendez-Gonzalez feud which was started between Hand of the Crown Juan Mendez and Pedro Gonzalez. The Hand of the Crown would be killed in the final duel, causing controversy within the Kingdom.

King Cesar I would meet his early end by the hand of Pedro Gonzalez, who killed him in a temporary madness. Cesar sustained a blow from an axe to the chest, which killed the King almost instantly. With the King's sudden and unexpected death, Hernan Vlastos was declared Lord-Regent of the realm until the King's young son Antonio was to come of age. Hernan Vlastos went on to begin a nation-wide manhunt for Pedro.

The Hyspian-Bandit War

After the establishment of the Hyspian Monarchist Army, Cesar I commanded them to begin waging war against the smaller bandit groups within the region. The goal of this was to bring stability and peace to the region and to cement Hyspia as a regional power in the Wildlands. As there was no specific target group, the "war" consisted of minor skirmishes fought between small groups of outlaws and the Hyspian Monarchist Army. Though by common standards the War was nothing more than a minor conflict, casualties were sustained in the few hundreds.

While the war was rumored to not be of massive importance to the overall political structure of Arcas, there were still several key battles such as the Battle outside Tierre Natal, the Raid on Tierre Natal, and the Hyspian Expedition

Negotiations with Norland

Around 1793, the first proper diplomatic meeting between Hyspia and another human nation would be with the Kingdom of Norland, which had agreed to meet with the young King Cesar. After introductions between King Cesar and Norland's King Halvar, discussions about the current diplomatic standings began. By the end of the meeting, the two Kingdoms had come away with a Non-aggression pact, formal recognition of sovereignty, and an Anti-Bandit pact. The two Kings also unofficially extended an offer to one another that should one be forced out of their land, the other shall give them shelter. This meeting cemented Hyspia as a recognized Nation within Arcas.

King Antonio of House Rivera (R. 1795-Present)

Antonio inherited his father's throne after Cesar I's death. Immediately after, his Lord-Regent Hernan Vlastos declared a nation-wide manhunt for the man who killed his Father, Pedro Gonzalez. While the infamous Pedro was captured, he was soon after freed by the same man who imprisoned him. The young King was immediately secured by Hernan and sent Antonio to his sister to keep him temporarily hidden and protected until the situation came under control once more. After increased negotiations between the Lord-Regent and a Baron of Sutica named Antonio De Medina, Lord Hernan agreed to yield the independence of the nation in order to successfully escape Arcas as it's destruction began and tore Tierre Natal apart. Hernan and Antonio de Medina built up a joint Osanora-Hyspian fleet with supplies from Sutica and were able to evacuate survivors from Hyspia and Osanora. There, they sailed across the sea to Almaris. After this point, Hyspia ceased to be an independent nation and became a landless vassal-state of Osanora. Many years later, after Antonio turned 8, he was returned to Osanora from Norland by citizens of Hyspia who stole him away from Norland. They brought him back, and began teaching him how to rule the Hyspian people. It is also within the same year that Antonio would face his first ever assassination attempt.

Tensions with Osanora

Despite initial cooperation, the majority of Hyspian citizens disliked being ruled by the Baron of Osanora, who was not a native Hyspian. Soon, Hyspian culture was found oppressed by the Osanoran baron and many of the Baron's forces (who were dominantly Hyspian) remained unpaid. Many turned to Prince Antonio to lead them, despite the boy's very young age. With the help of his advisors, he managed to gain the help of the Canonist church, and the Haenseni House of Barclay. Antonio and his Advisors cited religious misdoings and cultural oppression. The reason for the supposed Religious Misdoings alligation was due to the fact that the Osanoran appointed Diocese of the town had began what he called 'Reformed Canonism'. The Canonist church sent a Cardinal, and House Barclay sent a majority of its family to help the Hyspians. They then brought their case to the Sutican trade king, Mika. After a rather long meeting, Mika resorted to telling the Hyspians to meet with Osanoran leadership. The official meeting has yet to be in session.

First Assassination Attempt

A mere few months after Antonio had returned to Osanora, he was already the victim of an assassination plot. When the Prince was out on a walk to a nearby pond, the infamous Pedro Gonzalez and a Hyspian from the Altamirano family. While the Prince was playing in the water, Pedro and his accomplice came up behind the prince and stabbed him four times in the back. As he was not far from Osanora, Antonio's cries of pain were heard by Carlos Mendez who rushed over with his Spouse, Peralien. Carlos engaged in a duel with Pedro and his accomplice, as Peralien dragged the prince out of the water and laid him on his back. After ensuring the Prince was still alive, she sprinted over with a short sword and chased off her former lover, Pedro. While Carlos dispatched Pedro's accomplice, Pedro made a run for the mountains. Peralien and Carlos pursued him, with Peralien eventually tackling and stabbing him with her sword sword. Believing Pedro to be dead, they rushed back to Antonio and rushed him to the clinic in Sutica. Luckily, with the help of Sutican Paladins, Antonio's wounds were healed. He was then escorted home to Osanora where he would be put under heavy guard by his Regent Carlos.

Culture and Society

Demographics

The majority of citizens within Hyspia are ethnic Hyspian Farfolk with the occasional Heartlander or Highlander.

Religion

In the early days of Hyspia, the Hyspian people barely worshipped the church of the Canon. Now, after the church of the Canon has helped the Hyspians in their plight against Osanora, many Hyspians have fully adopted the Canonist teachings. However, interracial marriages and children are still legalized by Hyspia. This law only applies to Humans and Elves.

Politics

Asesores de Hyspia

The Asesores de Hyspia is the council of advisors that can be summoned by the ruling Monarch of Hyspia. They are allowed to propose laws to the King and serve as his personal Advisors. While they can propose laws, they hold no actual power over the King.

The Kingship

The Kingdom is ruled absolutely by the King of Hyspia. While he may appoint government officials, it is the King that will always need to give consent on any new laws and it is the King who makes the final decision in any serious matters. Traditionally, the King of Hyspia is expected to be directly involved with the Population, aka speaking to Civilians directly or hosting events within the Kingdom. On occasion, the King will appoint a Hand of the Crown which is traditionally and currently held by the House of Mendez

War

For a very long time, the Hyspians often practiced a warrior culture that relied heavily on training from a young age in the ways of warfare. Despite this, they tried very hard not to involve themselves with wars between major nations. While for the most part they succeeded, there have been a few cases of the Hyspians becoming involved in warfare such as the Hyspian-Bandit war

Hyspian National Army

The Hyspian Monarchist Army was the standing military of the Hyspian Nation, formed off the Hyspian Militia. They are often led by the King himself, with the potential of a 'Lord-Marshal' being appointed. The Military is a Meritocracy, meaning command is given based off of experience, not based off of blood ties. The Army itself was founded by King Cesar I after the establishment of Hyspia as a Kingdom. While there is no official Rank system, the Army often goes by an Experience-based hierarchy as explained before. Those with more experience are given higher duties. During times of war it is expected for Hyspians aged 18-40 to enlist for the time period of the conflict, and then all conscripts are dismissed unless the individual wishes to stay in the Army during peace time. Those who enlist in peace time do not apply to this. The Army was disbanded after Hyspia merged with Osanora and became the Rivera Noble Guard which became tasked with guarding the Rivera Family. The RNG was then reformed into the Hyspian National Army where it resumed its duties to Hyspia as a whole.
