Stefan, known regally as Stephen I of Hanseti and Ruska (Common: Stephen; High Imperial: Stephanus; Hansetian: Stefan) was the fifth King of Hanseti and Ruska of the House of Barbanov, following his brother's death to a deadly bout of measles. Considered one of the greatest Kings of the Dual Monarchy, Stephen was voted up as King (following the Greyspine Rebellion and its success) by the National Duma in a landslide victory. As King, his reformation of the Royal Army quickly shaped Haense as one of the world's strongest military powers, and he swiftly grew to be one of the richest Lords in the Holy Orenian Empire. He is also famed for his duel with Robert of Marna using smuggled flintlock weapons from Aeldin, leading to a new era of gentlemanly duels across the Empire.

Stephen passed away at the young age of 27 from disease, leaving the throne to his uncle, Otto I.
