The title of ‘Princess Imperial’ is an honorary title bestowed upon the firstborn daughter of the reigning Holy Orenian Emperor. There is only ever one Princess Imperial at a time, as the title is held for life - irrespective of the succession of any further Holy Orenian Emperor of that line.

As quoted by HIH Elizabeth, Princess Imperial in her publication, "The Nature of the Title of Princess Imperial" (1817): [1]

"The Princess Imperial, only seconded to the Holy Orenian Empress, acts as one of the leading female presences within the Imperial Family and further household. Her role holds little defined responsibility, though the nature of the honorific title lends itself to placing additional duty upon it’s holder. In the absence of a Holy Orenian Empress, the Princess Imperial can be considered as the most senior female member of the Imperial Household."

Origins

Pre-Johannian Era

As far as can be dated back, the first usage of the title ‘Princess Imperial’ occurred during the reign of the Exalted Siegmund I, who lived between the years of 1372-1447.

Though historical documentation Pre-Johannian era is sparse, it was noted that Princess Milena of Oren was, on occasion, referred to as the Princess Imperial. As the firstborn and only daughter to Siegmund I, Princess Milena is noted to have been awarded, or at least referred to upon multiple occasions as the holder of the honorific title. However, there lacks any official historical documentation of the creation of the title, nor any inheritors of the title following Princess Milena’s death.

Johannian Era

The title can be most accurately traced to its alleged creation within the Fifth Empire; the Johannian Empire. John III’s daughter Charlotte is the first clearly recorded Princess Imperial, and from his line the title can be traced throughout its various holders across history. It is believed that John III created the title in order to bestow an additional honour upon his favorite child, and as such the Princess Imperial title was born.

House of Horen (1526 - 1595; 1613 - 1619)

The House of Horen reclaimed the Imperial Throne during the Horen Restoration, which saw King Guy of Oren assassinated and the throne of Oren elevated once more to the Imperial rank.
