He served as the General (Elven: Annilir) of the Wood Elven militaries the Elberun'cinhir and the Order of Virarim, and was a decorated Veteran of the Order of Sirame. Named the Warden of the Pale by Emperor Peter III, Kairn ruled the Keep of Camlannen until the early 18th Century.

History

Early Life

Kairn Calithil was born in a village within Varendoz, Aeldin in 1425. When his mother died in 1442 amidst the Elven pogroms that characterized the era, he crossed the sea as an indentured servant and emigrated to Athera. A Heartlander named John Anders purchased his debt, and Kairn was put to work as a ledger keeper in Oren during the final days of the Carrion Dynasty. He tended to John Anders' banking, records, and estate until the aging merchant's death in 1450. In the merchant's will, the remainder of Kairn's debt was annulled so he was emancipated from his job.

Kairn took up work as a mercenary during the Schism War as a soldier of the Canonist League. Eventually, after an incident where a Canonist priest refused to baptize him on account of his Elven heritage, he journeyed to Laureh'lin to discover more about his background. Upon his arrival to the town, he found it under siege by the Order of Saint Amyas. Kairn challenged Olivier de Savoie to a duel, and then narrowly won despite a gash injury to his posterior tibial artery towards the back of his leg. The Elves nearby had assisted a frightened guardsman, and no clinicians were within sight. Olivier de Savoie called for his own personal clinician who traveled with the war-band and then had Kairn tended to, before honoring the conditions of their duel and leaving the city with his men. Kairn was conscripted into the Order of Sirame by Orlanden and Bravepaw. Under their tutelage, he learned how to use the sword, bow, and warglaive. At the time, Laureh'lin was at war with Haelun'or, a High Elven polity high in the nearby mountains. Kairn and his fellow soldiers were captured and tortured by Marked Men who had an alliance with the Sohaer of Haelun'or, Kalenz Uradir. It was not long afterwards that the news reached Laureh'lin. Andrik Vydra, the King of Reformed Oren who had triumphed in reunifying the state during the Schism War, had perished in Haelun'or by being dropped into a vat of acid at a pitfall trap between their gates. The Kingdom of Oren declared war and subsequently conquered Laureh'lin, Ker'nor, and Haelun'or annexing them as imperial territories.

Afterwards, Kairn was promoted to be an Officer by Praetor Tristin Tresery, who had been appointed Governor of the territory Laureh'lin by King Olivier de Savoie. Kairn continued to move up the ranks despite his adversarial relationship with Artimec Caerme'onn. He established a reputation as a fierce and abusive commanding officer and his men in hushed whispers took to calling him the "Mad Dog" of the Calithil Seed. Due to his preference for draconian punishments for civilians, foreigners, and soldiers who disturbed the peace - the Praetor had Kairn whipped on numerous occasions for taking punishments and penalties too far. During this time, Kairn had a child named Carellith with his partner Flora Calithil, but after Flora's disappearance ended up going on to marry Arianna Calithil, the pair having two children named Elenion and Hecate Calithil. Kairn would go on to become a member of Tristin Tresery's princeguard, and fought in the Dukes' War, the War of Orcish Submission, the Eighteen Years' War, the Third Rurikid Uprising, Riga War, and Krajian Rebellion. It was in the midst of these wars that the first incarnation of the nation-state the Dominion of Malin would be founded by Princeps Tristin Tresery,Avern’dionne Adriane, and Dak'ir Des'nox. The three signatories Laureh'lin, Ker'nor, and Haelun'or proclaimed a reunified Elvendom, and proclaimed Tristin Tresery the first King of the Elves since Malin himself.
