The Imperial State Army or The I.S.A is the current standing army of The Holy Orenian Empire. It was founded out of the ashes of War of the Two Emperors to replace the outdated levy armies which the imperial crown believe was one of the reasons that lead to the war in the first place. Over a century of operation The I.S.A has undergone many changes in officers, ranks, uniforms & standard operation. Currently, The Imperial State Army is the largest army in the realm, boasting a mighty 30,200 active soldiers with thousands more in reserves.

Brigades
The Imperial State Army is made up of five brigades. The 1st Brigade makes up the general infantry force of the army. The 2nd Brigade is where all recruits & cadets are sent for basic training. The 3rd Brigade is the army cavalry unit nicknamed The Helena Dragoons. The 4th Brigade is the elite guard that protects imperial royalty & carries out special missions. Lastly, The 5th Brigade is the medical & research division of the Imperial State Army.
The 1st Brigade
Over the course of The Imperial State Army's history, The 1st Brigade has stayed relatively the same throughout its history. The first version of the 1st Brigade held the purpose of being guards of Helena. When Alren DeNurem was made General, the 1st brigade changed to serve the same purpose it does today.
Within the 1st Brigade are four officer positions; Captain, Quartermaster, Drillmaster & Taskmaster. The role of the Taskmaster serves as a way to organize all the major projects of the army into smaller tasks that can be handed out to the common soldier. The Taskmaster also commonly plans & holds morale-boosting events for all soldiers. The Drillmaster's goal is to keep the 1st Brigade in shape by doing patrols of imperial land & combat exercises. The Quartermaster's tasks are to gather & distribute equipment to all soldiers. The Quartermaster often appoint's a Pennymaster who serves as an assistant. The Taskmaster, Drillmaster & Quartermaster are all Lieutenant ranks. The Captain function's as the overseer of the entire brigade & reports directly to the imperial army administration about the status of the brigade. The Captain is often the one who leads the brigade into battle.

The 2nd Brigade
During Leonard de Ruyter's time as Imperial General, The 2nd Brigade was known as "The Gunner's". The Gunner's served as the general assault force of The Empire. When Alren DeNurem took up the mantle as General, The Gunner's were abolished and The 2nd Brigade became the hub for recruits & cadets to go to gain their badges needed to pass basic training.
Within the 2nd Brigade are two different officer positions; Captain & Commandant. The Commandant serves as a drillmaster & trainer for the recruits. Commandants often run the bulk of imperial training. Currently, there are three Commandant positions available for soldiers from Sergeant to Lieutenant. ((WIP))

The 3rd Brigade
The 3rd Brigade originated as an elite order for the knights of The Holy Orenian Empire until the war Rubern War broke out & many knights defected to The Alliance of Independent States. The 3rd Brigade was disbanded with the remaining members funneling into the 1st & 2nd Brigade. During Alren DeNurem's time as General, The 3rd Brigade was refounded but this time as a cavalry unit which was nicknamed "The Helena Dragoons".
Prior to the creation of The Helena Dragoons, the only mounted units in The Imperial State Army were scouts & light calvary without a common goal that was until, Ensign Peter Baldwin, Carsen Helson & Alexander Cenobia reformed the brigade. The Dragoons were soon able to secure a base in The County of Harlingen, a vassal just outside of the Helena walls. Once the base was established, mass recruitment began for the brigade. Recruitment was slow at first but after the brigade displayed what it was capable of during The Battle of Rubern, recruits lined up to join.
Many years later, once the Rubern War was over & the 1st generation of The 5th Brigade was defunct. The Helena Dragoons were re-assigned to Owynsburg, Kaedrin where they primarily remained until the ending of The Sutican War.
The 3rd Brigade is made up of four officers positions; Captain, Master of The Vanguard, Master of The School & Master of The Horse. The Master of The Horse is a position dedicated to the well-being of the brigade's horses. They ensure that all horses are fed & healthy along with regularly breeding to create future mounts for the brigade's use. The Master of The School is responsible for all 3rd Brigade trainings & recruiting Cadets & Recruits from The 2nd Brigade into the 3rd. The Master of The Vanguard is in charge of leading the elite vanguard unit which is sent on the majority of imperial scouting & recon missions. Finally, The Captain oversees all 3rd Brigade activity & reports it directly to the Imperial General

The 4th Brigade
Prior to Alren DeNurem's military reforms, the 4th Brigade served as Oren's siege units. They were tasked with building, setting up & using siege weapons. After the DeNurem's reforms, Rylan Swint founded the new 4th Brigade known also as The Imperial Elite Guard. Their day-to-day tasks include serving as a bodyguard for imperial royalty, escorting peers throughout the Empire & carrying out special operations that are classified to the general public.
Once recruitment for the 4th Brigade started, many soldiers lined up for a chance to become an Imperial Elite Guard. The selection process for new members was challenging, you had to prove your competency in battle & only the best of the best were selected. Some of this was in part due to many Imperial Elite Guard members getting knighted by Peter III, Holy Orenian Emperor. In addition to many 4th Brigade members being knights, many others were secretly Azdrazi's. When news of this spread throughout the army, distrust between soldiers grew to cause the shrine to Azdromoth that sat in the fourth brigade base to be demolished along with some Azdrazi soldiers being removed from the army.
The Sutican War saw the next big change for The 4th Brigade. Similar to the previous knights of The 3rd Brigade, many 4th Brigaders defected from Oren in favor of the Begruded Alliance. During this time 4th Brigade activity died down due to its reduced numbers. However, The 4th Brigade still saw its fair share of conflict, such as one specific time where the 4th was tasked to kidnap the sutican trade king which caused many of its members to stay hidden in a sutican building for 12-16 saints hours straight.
Once the war had concluded, the brigade made attempts at picking back up its activity by hosting try-outs. During this try-out period was when a 4th Brigade plot to take out to the newly appointed Josephite government was uncovered. The Archchancellor, Jonah Stahl-Elendil was quickly informed of this & went to Alren DeNurem. General DeNurem took action & disbanded the brigade. This action caused the remaining 4th members to take a long hiatus from the military with many of them moving to the north-west territories.
Approximately six years passed before the brigade was re-established by Prince Philip Augustus.
The 4th Brigade is made up of three officer positions; Captain, Carriage Guard Commander & Special Operations Commander. The Special Operations Commander carries out dangerous missions throughout the entire realm. They are often considered to be the best warrior in Oren. The Carriage Guard Commander is tasked with escorting important citizens between settlements. Lastly, The Captain is tasked with overseeing all 4th Brigade activity & reporting it directly to the Imperial General.

Lex Kaedrini
The Lex Kaedrini is the military law that all soldiers are to abide by. While a soldier is on active duty, the Lex Kaedrini protects them from facing criminal court. Instead, soldiers face a court martial which decides their appropriate punishments. If a soldier is discharged from duty for a crime, the orenian courts can choose to pursue further investigation & trial of a former soldier.
