House of Alimar
|
The House of Barbanov-Alimar (Common: Alimar; Raevir: Alimarovic; High Imperial: Alimarii) is a human-cadet house of Barbanov. They are a princely household as well as the current ruling family of the County of Chatnik.
History
Arcas
The House of Barbanov-Alimar was founded by Aleksandra of Vidaus and Josef Eimar, son of the royal Barbanov prince Edward-Audemar. The pair recieved the Grand Prince of Muldav title, ensuring the household as a cadet branch to the royal Barbanov family. The two passed, leaving the Grand Prince title to Josef's eldest, Kazimar. Furthermore, Josef's cadet Richard became the Prince of Rubern. This allowed him to shepherd the Principality of Rubern, and problems would arise quickly. Richard and Rubern, along with many of Josef I's line, would defect and aggress the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska in a conflict known as the Rubern War. Richard's line would take the surname Stibor. Many Alimars, including Otto Sigmar, would be upset with Kazimar's lax attitude towards the rogue Ruberni branch of the family. Kazimar eventually abdicated his titles and was assassinated by Ruberni bandits shortly after, leaving Otto I to declare himself Grand Prince of Muldav. A staunch loyalist to the Haeseni crown, Otto restored stability in the house and reputation in the Kingdom, serving as Lord Regent of Hanseti-Ruska for a time.
Years passed as Alimar continued to restore its establishment as a loyal cadet to Barbanov. Eventually, the prolonged Rubern War would come to an end with the dissolution of the Principality of Rubern, and Josef II, Grand Prince of Muldav resettled the once-rogue lands with a modest fort and homestead, leaving the majority of the acreage to be fields and forests - a national park and memorial to the bloody war that plagued the region prior. The family continued their faithful service to their parent house as they obtained the territory. A small period of turmoil happened to the house around 1784, where Josef II committed suicide and his children died under suspicious circumstances. This left the leadership of the house to Josef's estranged brother, Lothar, who kept the house loyal to Hanseti-Ruska following the Kingdom's separation from the eighth Holy Orenian Empire.
Almaris
Following decades of suspicious isolation and libel surrounding his brother, niece and nephew's untimely deaths along with his much frowned upon dabbling in alchemy and arms manufacturing, the last Grand Prince of Muldav - Lothar I - was denied a landed fief upon arrival to the continent of Almaris after accusations of murder and other eccentrics claiming him to be potentially of magical or undead nature. Outraged, the Grand Prince (concurrently last known living Alimar) set off on an expedition into the frozen northern peaks of Almaris, declaring to King Joseph I that he would plant his own flag in the wastes, with or without royal assent, as his ancestors had before him. Soon after a declaration was made by the Haeseni establishment, dissolving the title 'Grand Prince of Muldav' and returning the County of Chatnik to the Crown.
Perhaps having anticipated this for some time, with distance placed between himself and his Barbanov roots upon inheritance of the aforementioned titles, with the removal of the crowned crows from his coat of arms in favour of a magpie and cannon-wielding cossack, Lothar is said to have taken this stripping of titles as a 'release from his oath' to the Dual-Kingdom. Soon after, the shunned Alimar went on to erect a great fortress in the northern wilds of Almaris; a sanctuary for the disenfranchised and delvers of the taboo sciences. Furthermore, with no proper name for the new seat of his house nor styling for himself as it's lord, Lothar chose to avow the once dissolved Princely title of Rubern as his own, dubbing his new land the Principality of Rubern in turn.
