The Standoff at Talon's Gate was a standoff at the main gate of Talon's Port within The Unified Domain of Vortice, and the first military engagement of the Maelstormic Claim on Vortice.
Prelude
After James Maelstorm founded the Maelstormic Society and issued his demands to Monarch Lenora Jusima to give up leadership of The Unified Domain of Vortice, it was clear that a military engagement was going to happen between the rebels and the government forces of Vortice.
Standoff
Late in the day on the 14th of the First Seed, the forces of the Maelstormic Society trudged through the marshlands of the Southern Jungle and appeared before the gates of Talon's Port, which had been closed in light of the recent threats. One of the commanders within the Maelstormic Society, identified as Peralien, The Grand Martlett, claimed that they held a boomsteel bomb on their person, and threatened to utilize it to breach the walls of the city.
Gusiam Jusima, Monarch-Consort of Vortice and well-known tinkerer, saw through this lie issued by the Maelstormic Society, and ordered the archers upon the wall to fire at the approaching group. A brief exchange of arrows followed, though the Vortician forces didn't leave the safety of the city due to the late-night garrison being outnumbered. This exchange of fire was rapid, yet there were very few casualties on either side.
Upon realizing the Vorticians had fortified their position, The Grand Martlett ordered that the Maelstormic Society retreat from the city. Before leaving, one of the soldiers upon the field, Thomas Venice, the former Talon's Grotto Minister of Defense beneath Sovereign Castiel Valaker, loudly declared that they would destroy the "New Talons" that Vivian Maelstorm had created since instating the monarchy, calling out for her to writhe in her grave.
Aftermath
The Maelstormic Society immediately claimed that they had won the battle despite there being no true victor of the standoff, and produced another publication taunting the cowardice of the Vortican defenders for not leaving the walls to face the larger force.
