The Hyspians, also called Hyspanics are one of the ethnicities that makes up the Farfolk humans. Formerly nomadic, the Hyspian people are native to Arcas and its largely uncolonized area known as "The Wildlands" where for decades they roamed the mountains. Under the leadership of Cesar de Rivera, the nomadic Hyspians banded together and formed the first permanent Hyspian settlement of Tierra Natal. This laid the foundation for the Kingdom of Hyspia and, centuries later, the Viceroyalty of Hyspia. Their origins are relatively unknown, yet it is widely rumored that they are in some way related to Santegians due to speaking the same language. The Hyspians in the modern era prefer a feudal type of government, having had several Monarchs of Hyspia and many noble families such as the House of Altamirano, House Mendez, House de Rivera, and more. Although in the modern era many Hyspians reside under the vassalization of other nations, many Hyspians still maintain a mindset of political and cultural independence and some still strive for a successful independent Hyspian state.

Clothing

The Hyspian people are known for having a wide variety of attire. Oftentimes this includes bright coloring (often Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow), and nobility of the culture is known to use gold trimmings on their clothes. As for armor, Hyspian armies have historically preferred a blend of gambeson and plate armor with a chest plate almost always included. Blue is the most popular color of the culture, as it is the color of the banners for both the old Kingdom of Hyspia and the Sovereign State of Hyspia. Red often comes as a close second.

In later years, Hyspias fashion developed further, incorporating embroidery, religious iconography and loosely layered fabrics. This is detailed further in a missive written under Ramona I, Sovereign of Hyspia reign: An In-Depth Look into Hyspian Fashion. In further details, a missive is written on the caretaking of the Hyspian appearance, detailing the care routine Hyspians undetake: Cosmetics of Hyspia.

The clothing donned is meant to protect against the Hyspian heat, making for loose and colorful fabrics.

Appearance

Physically a Hyspian, like any other Human, can have any body shape. In terms of distinctive features the Hyspians tend to have a skin color ranging from light tan to olive to bronze. It often depends on the profession of the Hyspian, as a Hyspian who constantly is outside working on a field is likely to have a darker skin tone than a Hyspian who spends a majority of their time within a nobleman's castle.

Dark hair is seen primarily as well, alongside a range of eye colorings, though primarily browns and greens.

Culture & Society

The Hyspian culture is known to be a colorful one, filled with vibrant fabrics, music and good food. Those of the Hyspian variety are commonly known as farfolks, with darker toned skin and darker hair. Their clothing, something detailed in a missive An In-depth look into Hyspian Fashion, consists of loose and colorful fabrics that allow for free movement and won't be too warm in the desert sands. Appearances are further looked into via a missive which details how to care for their skin and hair, an important aspect to the Hyspians everyday life: Cosmetics of Hyspia.

Within Hyspian society, despite the having of nobility, status isn't differentiated much. Inter-status marriages are commonplace, and you are just as likely to find a noble in the tavern, as you would a commoner. Despite this, they can lead vividly different lives, from how they work and to how they dress. This is detailed further in a missive, named the Common People of Hyspia.

There are a few coming-of-age traditions within the Sovereign State of Hyspia, traditionally held upon the age of fifteen. One such tradition is known as the Quinceañera or more uncommonly the Quinceañero. When Hyspias generation of children all begin to come of age, these celebrations are had, with pinatas and bullfighting taking the spotlight. Alongside this is Hyspias social season, known as El Puente, hosted to celebrate the coming-of-age of Hyspias next generation. More on coming-of-age traditions can be found in this missive: Hyspia Coming-of-Age Traditions.

Later in life, should a Hyspian wish for courtship - they would present the individual with a pearl. Acceptance of the pearl, and of the significant others family would allow for a traditional Hyspian courtship until time came for an engagement and wedding. Unlike other cultures, the Hyspian wedding outfit isn't kept to white, but instead allows for a range of colors - from blues to oranges.

In the event of children, they are baptized in the canonist faith and named according to status. It is common place to see commoners with two middle names, nobles with two to three and royals with four to five. The names are often lengthy, though no matter the status, they primarily use their first middle name - unless in the case of a birth, wedding or death announcement.

== The Hyspian Social Classes ==

There are a total of five classes within Hyspias society, two of which are known commonly to be a grey area.

Royalty, the Sovereign House of de Pelear is the royal family of Hyspia. They are the Protector of the Farfolks and the Hyspians, overseeing their peoples livelihood. They are commonly known as the Sovereign, Sovereign-Consort, Princes and Princesses.

Lesser Royalty, they are still part of the Sovereign House of de Pelear but are known to have been born to the second-in-line to the throne. They are styled as Infantes and Infantas, children of a the secondborn Prince or Princess of Hyspia. They have less perks then their cousins, and exist within a grey area, between royalty and nobility alike. This is further explained in a missive, named, What is an Infanta?

Nobility, these are the landed houses within the Sovereign State of Hyspia. Our Dukes and our Barons. They work within the government, oversee the parties and celebrations and serve and protect their home with fervor.

Honorary Nobility, these are those that have been granted a title, but one that is to go back to the Sovereign Crown upon death. They exist within a grey area of Hyspia, between the roles of nobility and commoner alike. These titles are often granted to someone who has made great contribution but lacks a family to pass any titles onto.

Commoners make up the majority of the Hyspian people. They are the lifeblood of the Sovereign State, assuring the day-to-day goes smoothly. Our soldiers, our farmers and our teachers. Without them, much like any place, all would be lost.
