The city was the seat of the House of Barbanov, who resided in the palace of Krepost in the easternmost district of the city. The city was a paramount site of acitivity within the Kingdom of Haense, and was the most frequented settlement of any in the nation.

Within the year 1641, the city of Markev was built after several months landing in Atlas. Markev would be named after King Marius Barbanov. The city would be built during King Otto II's reign. The few trees around the area were cleared before the masons of Haense began to work on the walls. After they were done King Otto II of Haense would then decide to make the city color to red which would develop the city's nickname of the Red City.
