History
Eirik Thorsson Ruric from the start of his reign as King of Norland was forced to reconcile the horrible political situation he inherited from his brothers - an Imperial demand for the Kingdom of Norland to cede all lands and holdings to the Holy Orenian Empire. Eirik's diplomatic maneuvering and managing to secure a manageable peaceful vassilization rather than conquest and complete loss of sovereignty. This saved the Norlandic people from utter destruction and allowed the Red Faith to continue to spread throughout the North. He also worked greatly to recover the economic strength of the Norlandic territories as well as created the Ashguard to secure those territories, and even the greater Holy Orenian Empire. The Ashguard would assist the Holy Orenian Empire in the Eighteen Years' War.
Appearance
During his early years, Eirik was often found wearing the armor of the Norlandic army, but in his later years, would move to traditional norlandic furs and robes, finding the armor to be too heavy in his old age. Eirik would grow a magnificent beard, which would towards the end of his life, shine a glistening white, like the snow of his ancestral lands.
Family
Eirik was known to be cruel to his children at times, notably beating Hakon ruric with a cane when he was a boy to the point where Hakon was unable to walk for several days. However Eirik also considered his family to be one of the most important things in his life, making sure that he had time for every single on of his children during the day.
Legacy
Eirik is remembered by the Norlandic peoples for his genius political and diplomatic maneuvering and is recognized as a Paragon of the Red Faith. while his vassalization to the Orenian Empire is considered a contentious issue by Norlanders, some considering it a necessary action to save Norland, and other seeing it as a betrayal of Norlandic values, none can deny that without his efforts, Norland would cease to exist to this day.
