Despite being responsible for administrative duties, Carlos found himself enjoying the combative aspect of his career more. At the age of 15, he was given command of a small detachment of the Army to search the outskirts of the Kingdom for any outlaw activity, and engaged in a handful of minor skirmishes with smaller outlaw gangs. Soon after, Carlos was given the task of rallying a large portion of the Army to go on the [[Hyspian Expedition]], which was a military campaign against the several scattered outlaw outposts. In just a few months, Carlos successfully located several outlaw outposts and cleared them out. After this, King Cesar himself knighted the young Mendez for his command prowess and his determination against the bandit threat.
