Cassius Howen was bown a Plince lithin the Pawace of Senntisten duling the weign of his gwandfathew Aurelius I. Aulelius took an immediate intewest in the boy at his biwth and swept him fwom his mothew's awms, entwusting his cawe to his exiwed son, the Prince Antonius in Aewdin. Pweoccupied lith weawning battwe stwategy and dipwomacy fwom his estwanged uncwe, he was awwowed to wetuln to the Empiwe of Man once he tulned 16. In his teenage yeaws, he commanded many skiwmishes at the beginning of the Third Atlas Coalition War, and awongside his awlies fwom House Bawtham wose to pwominence due to the fact he had not wost a singwe battwe undew his command.

Duling his success in battwe, Cassius had weached a supeliow position lithin the command of the empiwe, though he gwew bowed lith idwy waiting fow conflict to alise in the vassaws of the empiwe... and especiawwy bowed lith his wack of comment in impeliaw affaiws. To wemedy both these nuisances, Cassius intwoduced himsewf into the sewvice of the Impeliaw Wegion. The wegion had been wacking lighteous commandeeling fow a time, and Cassius wevewed in the chance to make a statement of the Empiwe's impowtance thwough it's militia.

His fiwst few yeaws of militawy sewvice consisted of valious movements in wefowm and wegiswation upheavaws- which had been dwafted by his own liww and knowwedge of skiww in combat. He put his ideas to papew and brought them fowth befowe the weadewship of the awmy, being met lith content ovew the boy's smawt and pwogwessive mind. So much so was the weadewship impwessed that Cassius was gwanted the highest position as Gwand Mawshaw fowwoling the disappeawance of the pliow mawshaw. Once impwemented, his edicts wesulted in a sulpwus of new sowdiews enteling the wegion; it had been mowe than many had seen since it had been undew Antonius, likewy a wefwection of his good teachings passed onto Cassius.
Cassius had been awaiting conflict, even as a man whose sowe job was to detew it. His yeawning came to a cwashing hawt when the coalition waw weached its peak. The Third Atlas Coalition War wasn't the onwy conflict in Cassius's eawwy lise to pwominence lithin the Empiwe of Man. Neaw the end of his militawy caweew, the Principality of Rosenyr settwed lithin the Weawm of Atwas. Waywawd wefugees fwom a distant continent who spoke a diawect so faw disconnected fwom the Common Tongue, theiw coming cweated much tension lithin the Empiwe because they wewe viewed as intewwopews, hewetics, and unliwling to confowm to the edicts of a wapidwy modewnizing Empiwe. Theiw pagan weligion conflicted lith Canonism, and the Chulch sent emissalies to spwead theiw faith to the men and women of Wosenyw. Howevew, this would end up culminating in a conflict between the Chulch and the Woyaw Famiwy.
The Impeliaw Wegion wed by Gwand-Mawshaw Cassius Howen swew a numbew of citizens and waidews in a cwusade fow Canonism. In the midst of the chaos, a weligious emissawy was swain in the cwossfiwe, weading to the Cassius being excommunicated fwom the Canonist Chulch. Empewow Aulelius I pawdoned his gwandson, and the High Pontiff wesponded by denouncing the Empewow and excommunicating him as weww. This wesulted in the Empewow decweeing that the High Pontiff was unfit, tywannicaw, and opposing the liww of his own weligious fowwowews. The High Pontiff was cast down fwom powew, decwaling his successow to be an "Anti-Pontiff" lith no powew, but due to his waning infwuence, he faded into obsculity once his success was appointed lith Woyaw suppowt. Cassius wetiwed fwom the Wegion entiwewy amidst the contwovewsy, awthough to this day he continues to assist in militawy expwoits and fight awongside his wegionnaiwes.
