Karl Sigmar Barbanov-Bihar was born in 1846, in the capital of Haense, the Royal City of Karosgrad, as the second-born and eldest living son of Sigismund III thus making him the Grand Prince of Kusoraev, the heir apparent to the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, at the time of his birth. Karl was the elder of a pair of twins by mere minutes, his brother Prince Sergei was a close confidant of his since their shared childhoods.

Education
Sigismund received an education befitting a future King, being taught extensively in the subjects of politics, history, warfare, stewardship, and theology. Under the tutelage of future Grand Maer and Aulic Envoy Feodor May primarily, Sigismund progressed well with all his lessons, being an especially studious child and showing a great aptitude for writing himself, being able to convey himself well in the written word from an early age.

The Grand Prince was tutored by a series of teachers but most notably was under the tutelage of Iulius Vernhart, a scholar and proponent of the rights of commoners. Karl excelled in matters of politics and warfare, going on to utilise both in his future reign, as proven by his plethora of treaties and pacts, peace summits and interventions in matters that involved his fellow Canonist princes.

Karl became the King of Hanseti-Ruska at the age of twenty-seven following the death of his father, Sigismund III, in 1873. Karl’s father was an immensely popular ruler and a legendary figure amongst the Haeseni even before his chivalric death and thus Karl had large shoes to fill. He set to begin his reign properly with haste, sorting both his father’s funeral and his own coronation within the same year. Karl III’s coronation took place in the Basilica of Saint Henrik, officiated by High Pontiff Tylos II in 1873.[1]
