Iygor Kort (var Kortrevich) (Common: Igor Kort (nee Kortrevich)) served as the tenth Lord Speaker of the Aulic Council of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska and served as the second longest sitting Lord Speaker for nineteen years until the time of his assassination on the 5th of Sun's Smile, 1828. Igor was known to be the one of the most controversial Speaker's in the entire Kingdom's history, becoming the only Speaker to be impeached twice by the Royal Duma in a vote of no confidence after releasing the Winter Edict under the authority of King Heinrik II. Igor was known to be a fairly progressive figure throughout his life as a politician, statesman, and mentor, often stating that he was the representative of the common man. Igor would die after blocking two crossbow bolts with his back upon an assailant's attempt to harm Petra Emma, Princess Royal of Haense on the night of her debutante. Igor later succumbed from his fatal injuries' soon after the assailant made his escape, being held and comforted by the princess in his final moments.

Early Life & Career

Childhood

Sometime in 1782, Igor was born in an abandoned barn somewhere near the capital city of New Reza. His father, Nikolaus Otto Bykov (eventually ennobled as Kortrevich), and mother Natalia Pavlova, ran away from New Reza to Helena after Igor's birth. For much of his childhood, Igor was raised in secrecy and was often barred from visiting his family in New Reza by his father, leading the bastard child to rely on literature surrounding philosophy, human culture, and most importantly, politics. Tragically, his life in Helena came to a halt when his mother passed from a fever resulting of her injuries during the Inferi War. Then twelve year old Igor and his father would travel as nomads in seek of a new home following the great migration to Almaris. Upon the construction of Karosgrad, Igor would find himself adopted by his grandfather Ser Ivan Kortrevich, commonly known as The Red Bull. Shortly after, Ser Ivan would die protecting his cousin Lord Viktor Kortrevich, Margrave of Korstadt, in an encounter with forest bandits. Lord Viktor would legitimize his late estranged cousin, allowing Igor to claim the bastard name of "Kort".

Career

At the tender age of fifteen, Igor Kort would start his political career by running for the position of Tribune, an elected seat of the Royal Duma that was held by common-born representatives. Igor entered in as an underdog compared to his much more experienced contemporaries and ran a campaign that heavily focused on the representation of commoners and public engagement in politics. On the 12th of Sun's Smile, 1798 (350 E.S.), sixteen year old Igor Kort would win the publics favor, gaining 72% of the populations vote.

The young politician continued to gain political and public favor, presenting a majority of the legislation alongside his political ally and future adversary, Prince Franz Barbanov , many of which reaching royal assent. Throughout his ten year tenure as Tribune, Igor followed through consistently with his political promises and gained the interest of his future mentor and predecessor, Lady Speaker Irene Sarkozy. Igor shared much of Irene's political views and would eventually be favored as her successor. In a nail biting election in 1808 (360 E.S.) between the Royal Duma's representative, Igor would win a narrow decision against Prince Franz as Lord Handler by one vote. The friendly yet competitive clash would prove to be a constant between the two throughout Igor's career.

Appointment to Lord Speaker

Igor's tenure as Lord Handler would be the shortest in history as only a year later Lady Irene would retire as Lady Speaker, leaving the Crown to select Igor as the new Lord Speaker.
