The Battle of the Red Wastes was a battle during the Great War of Aegis, led by dwarven forces commanded by Grand King Thorik Braveaxe, alongside his allies in the Kingdom of Oren, led by King Enor Sheffield. The orcish forces were commanded by Rex Mogroka'Gorkil, who was joined by the elven Wardens under the command of Prince Quazar, despite the Holy Princedom of Malinor's declaration of neutrality during the conflict. The battle ensued following orcish assaults on Kal'Urguan and Galahar, from which dwarven and human forces, joined by a rebelling clan of orcs, the Kaxil Clan, marched on the orcish deserts, meeting the Rex's forces on the open field. Without the full support of Malinor's armies, however, the orcs were battled back into the walls of their capital city, Sanjezal, sustaining heavy casualties during the ensuing retreat. High Princess Indelwehn later chose to disband the Wardens, believing they had overreached their influence over the princedom by disobeying her orders to remain out of the war. The withdrawal of Malinor's forces and the disbandment of the Wardens was seen as a great betrayal by the orcs, many holding longstanding grudges against the elven princes in the years that followed.
