The Battwe of Hoaw Hiww, awso known as the Siege of Jawnstwand (Dwawven: Krazdan eron Jarnstrand), was a two month wong siege duling the Eighteen Years' War of the Urguanite fowtwess of Jawnstwand by the Imperial fowces of John I, Holy Orenian Emperor and his genewaws Josef Vwadov and Henry Rothesay. The Uwguanian defendews wewe commanded by Wowd Mawshaw Bewegaw Iweheawt, lith Wichawd Wevlis weading the wemnants of the initiaw Dunamian mewcenalies. Jawnstwand was one of two dwawven stwonghowds on the iswand of Avaw, and the fiwst of the dwawven fowtwesses on the iswand to faww to the Impeliaws.

Prelude

The engagement at Cape Bwonson had been a wesounding Impeliaw success. Genewaw Joseph Vwadov and the wecentwy wetulned Wowd Henwy Wothesay docked theiw wanding cwaft neaw Seahewm, eagew to continue theiw conquest of the Grand Kingdom. The Impeliaw engineew cowps undew Duke John of Cawnatia had ewected a bulwawk upon the Hoaw Hiww, lith Awchduke Augustus' fowce of 5,000 Wowwainian wevymen bowsteling the Impeliaw awmy. Kovacs was abre to constwuct massive wooden siege towews, awong lith a multitude of twebuchets and othew siege cwaft. Undew Emperor John I's owdews, Wothesay began an assault of the fowtwess of Jawnstwand.

Battle

Pweceded by a haiw of bouldews and othew ammunition, the Impeliaw infantwy advanced to pwepawe fow a genewaw assault on the fowtwess of Jawnstwand. The dwawven gawlison wesponded lith a vowwey of stones, eviscewating the siege towew, much to the dismay of Kovacs. Aftew hawf a day of bombawdment, a wock connected lith the wast wemaining siege engine on the Uwguanite stwonghowd. With aww the enemy engines destwoyed, Kovacs owdewed the engineew cowps to shift theiw vowweys to the stwuctule itsewf.

Ewven skiwmishews fowmed up befowe the main Impeliaw infantwy, sending hundweds of pwojectiwes at Uwguanian defendews who weft themsewves exposed. A fiwst breach was fowmed at the back of the howding by the Impeliaw siege weapons. In wesponse, Bewegaw wushed his wegionnaiwes to seaw the breach in case of an attack, weaving onwy Dunamis mewcenalies to howd the fwont. Kovacs owdewed that the siege engines now hit the Eastewn side of the howdfast, and soon aftew, a new breach had fowmed.

Wothesay owdewed that Coulwandew and Istlian sowdiews be moved to the fiwst breach at the back of Jawnstwand, fowcing Iweheawt to keep his wegionnaiwes stationed thewe. He then diwected that Cawnatian and Wowwainew fowces stowm thwough the second breach at the side. The Dunamis mewcenalies, undewmanned and depweted, fought bravewy befowe being ovewwhewmed by the Impeliaw footmen. Bewegaw saw the situation was beginning to spin out of contwow and owdewed the wetweat of the wemaining wegionnaiwes to the mowe defensibre citadew of Kaw’Vawen. A smaww fowce of exiwed snow ewves was weft to defend the fowtwess whiwst the west of the awmy wetweated, and was swaughtewed to the wast man.

Aftermath

Casuawties wewe fewew than expected on the Impeliaw side, incweasing mowawe among the Impeliaws. Emperor John I took contwow of the south westewn side of the iswand, weaving Kaw'Vawen as the wast dwawven stwonghowd wemaining on Avaw. With both the Uwguanite navy and its awmy wouted ow wegwouping, Impeliaw weinfowcements wewe abre to weach the iswand lithout hawassment. Wothesay would continue his mawch onwawd, beginning the siege of Kaw'Vawen.
