Biography
Early Life
Roland von Sturmweber, was born the 7th of Sigismond's End 1888 as Robyrt Taranis on the island of Galta; a trading post and mining town in the far off Eastern seas of Almaris. His father Donal Taranis, and mother Maeve Taranis, are of mixed Waldenic descent. Their ancestors fled the mainland decades prior, establishing a company on the island. This company, the Taranis Mining Guild, provided a steady income for local workers and tradesmen.
At the age of 8, Roland began working in the charter office, helping his father with mundane tasks like custodial work. At age 12, he learned about all kinds of ores, their properties, and what alloys could be made. While not explicitly learning about blacksmithing, Roland did have a natural affinity around the forge. He didn't see the task as overwhelming, and aspired to become a smith one day. However, apprenticeship would have to wait, as the threat of privateers only grew ever more apparent. By the age of 16, Roland and his family actively supplied the defense of Galta, and even served as militia to repel attacks by pirates, mercenaries, and opportunists.
Roland decided, upon reaching the age of 26, to depart from Galta and reach Almaris in the hopes of making a new life for himself. Upon reaching the shores of Eastfleet, Roland was welcomed off the pier by Sigismond Varoche and Heinrik Sarkozic, Duke of Adria.
Adrian Military Career
With his welcome into the Duchy of Adria by the Duke, Roland began his initial career as part of the Adrian Watch, or more well known as the Greycloaks. Roland's time in Adria taught him basic combat skills, specifically with war picks and hammers; a weapon he was already familiar with in his trade.

Age Discrepancy
On the eve of the Mori Conquest upon Almaris, Roland found himself in quite the conundrum regarding a mystical woman he met back in Adria. He sought the help of her in finding some lost scriptures of from an text written a century before his birth. Among the esoteric scavenger hunt list she gave, she also bestowed upon him a special potion. This potion was unknown to Roland, or anyone within his immediate circle of friends, but the effects were easily noticeable.
After his initial battle with the Mori in Minitz, Roland decided that he would try the potion out himself, to see if it would give him a stark advantage over the enemy. This, however, was not the case. The potion seemed to be a preservative of some kind, but caused him to enter a deep comatose state. The coma would last 20 years or so, and his closest friend Rakshasa El-Shahidi would monitor his health throughout this time.
After emerging from the coma, Roland found his body had not aged a day. Miraculously, he felt as if he just took a quick nap. Waking up to a new continent, however, did take some getting used to. With his trusted companion, the two set off for Minitz from their temporary home in Balian, eager to reunite with their old friends.
