The Capture of Queen Amaya of Haense was a battle and subsequent capture that occurred during the middle of the Aevos Coalition War.

Prelude

After being told that Haense had plans to host festivities for The Covenant, Rex Grommash of the Iron Horde issued a public notice of an impending raid[1]. After some deliberation, King Aleksandr called for the festivities to be canceled and made preparations for the assault.

Battle

The allied forces of The Iron Horde, Veletz, and Ferrymen gathered at the back gate of Valdev, yet were surprised to find no resistance. This was because The Covenant's forces had taken refuge in the Palace of Haense, preparing to hold a fight within the city. The raiders quickly propped up a ladder and scaled the wall, breaching the gatehouse as they did so to ensure they could exit out the back gate if necessary. From there they continued into the city until they met The Covenant's forces at the gates to the palace. As the battle began the allied raiders feigned signs of planning for ranged combat, prompting a charge from The Covenant. The two sides clashed quickly thereafter but with the clever use of skilled cavalry, The Iron Horde's forces were able to effectively defeat Haense's defensive force with relatively few casualties. During the fighting, several of Haense's leading commanders were killed and Queen Amaya of Haense was captured.

Aftermath

The victorious force quickly withdrew from Valdev and made their way to Winburgh, captive Queen in tow. The Marshal of Veletz, Hendrick van Aert, issued a challenge to King Aleksandr to rescue his wife, and preparations were made for the potential of a rescue battle. [2] The King of Haense offered no reply and no official action was made by the Kingdom to rescue their Queen save for a lone fisherman challenged Hendrick to a duel for the rescue of Queen Amaya. Judging that this man had been brave enough to rescue a maiden whose husband had not, Hendrick accepted this challenge. To great surprise, the fisherman was victorious in two of three bouts, and Queen Amaya was willfully released to be escorted home by him. Veletzian bards and poets later recorded this event in honor of the fisherman's valiant efforts.[3]
