The Principality of the Dreadlands was a bandit and a criminal nation created in 1549 following the end of the 18 years war. It was first created in Vailor as a place for criminals and outlaws to seek refuge in a like minded state. It was established by Danis Silverblade , accompanied by a large number of Flays and Dunamians. The Dreadlanders were raiding both The Kingdom of Urguan and The Orenian Empire on a daily basis. The dreadlands assisted unsuccessful rebellions including the Riga-War and the The Ruric Rebellion. The dreadlands was dissolved in 1574.

History

Vailor

After being created in 1549, the first time the Dreadlands got into a war was during The Ruric Rebellion when Norland rebelled against the Holy Orenian Empire after not being recognised as a Dutchy. There was a close battle fought on a whale carcass where the Ruric fleet was destroyed and the Holy Orenian Empire pressed on to the shores of Avar. The empire quickly sieged Seahelm and destroyed the rebellion. The refugees subsequently fled to the Dreadlands mainland.

With the new influx of refugees, the Dreadlands expanded and the new capital of Sera was constructed along side with the Bone Fort. The Rurics were made into one of the royal families and the Dreadlands was heavily influenced by Ruric culture. The Rurics heavily increased the Dreadlandic population, but some argue that it is their fault that the dreadlands became populated with bad warriors.

The second time the Dreadlands were in a war was during the Riga-War in 1564. They were neutral for the first few battles, but after The Kingdom of Courland declared rebellion the dreadlands joined their side. They defeated The Holy Orenian Empire in the battle of the Goldfields thanks to strong dreadlandic cavalry and commanding. Unfortunately the war never got to finish as the leader of courland was taken out in a coup by his 8 year old nephew, controlled by the empire of Oren. Again more Courlandic refugees flooded into the Dreadlands

Axios

The dreadlands moved to Axios in 1571. The Rurics had mostly taken most of control by now. After arriving on Axios, they settled in Asul where they continued banditing and raiding on The Orenian Empire and allies. They expanded on Asul, with a fort being the main capital. After a few years of fighting The Orenian Empire planned a full scale invasion on the Dreadlandic mainland. Knowing they would be unable to succeed the dreadlands dissolved and its membes migrated into other nations.

Culture

The Dreadlands are a haven for bandits and exiles, choosing to live under the protection of a united army of cutthroats. Whilst there is no official laws there is however a code of honour set by the Prince. All citizens living under the roof of the Prince are obliged to uphold and preserve the honour code. They have the mere task of dealing with fools who might disgrace it.

Code of Honour I. Every man shall obey civil command; the Prince shall have one full share and a half of all prizes. II. If any man shall offer to run away, or keep any secret from the Dreadlands, he shall be bound and thrown into a pit of snakes. III. If any man shall steal any thing in the Dreadlands, or game, to the value of 500 minas he shall be banished or thrown into a pit of snakes. IV. That man that shall refuse or disobey command, shall receive Princes’ Law (that is, the branding of the flayed man) on the left side of his neck. V. That man that shall attack or betray his brothers, shall be put to death, flayed alive then drawn and quartered. VI. Should a man not keep his weapons clean and, fit for an engagement, or neglect his business, shall be cut off from his share, and suffer such other punishment as the Prince thinks fit. VII. If any man shall lose a joint in time of an engagement, shall have 400 minas ; if a limb, 800 minas.

Demographics

Humans made up the majority of the Dreadlands while the Elven population of the Dreadlands started to decrease over the years.

The dreadlands in Axios was in the middle of Tahn and was mainly made up of fields. The Ruric keep was in the middle of the dreadlands. Raids and Skirmishes were often fought towards the Orcish lands in the east.
