Oksana Marusya, otherwise known as Oksana of the North or Oksana of the Heartlands, was the Countess-Consort of Aldersberg by her marriage to Markus Marie Sarkozic in 1924. However, to what extent she was an actual countess is disputed due to Markus's claim to the title being unsteady in the first place. Later, she'd arise to the role of Duchess of Adria together with her husband. Furthermore, she was a member of the noble lineages of Ivanovich and Ruthern, later taking the surname of her unknown father. Her tenure, and life in general, was in severe poverty which only pushed her closer to her religion and to be a charitable countess when she had the chance to be.

Biography

Early Life

Oksana Marusya Ivanovich was born in a far northern settlement known as Ulvegar on the 3rd of Tobias' Bounty, 1904. where her mother, Maya Ekaterina vas Ruthern, had gone to spread the teachings of Canonism. However, Maya would abandon Oksana when she was still young, leaving the girl to face the harsh and unforgiving lands alone. With no parental figures, poverty, and uncertainty marked Oksana's early years, but she remained unbroken through such trials.

Upon receiving tidings of the Ivanovich family's presence in the Duchy of Adria, fourteen-year-old Oksana embarked on a quest to seek her father's guidance. However, upon arrival, she discovered that he had embarked on another foreign escapade, leaving behind only his son Sveneld, an older brother to Oksana.

From that point forward, Oksana dwelled on the outskirts of the city, residing in a humble lean-to against the protective walls of the church. Dirt and disarray clung to her being, her appearance neglected and uncared for, with naught but the clothes on her back and a trunk of her mother’s belongings. Yet, despite her unkempt state, her mind was nourished by the pages of books, which offered her solace and escape.

During her teenage years, Oksana immersed herself in the company of the young folk of Veleç, notably forming bonds with Suzana Otta, the Countess of St. Emalyne, and her younger brother, Markus Marie, the Count of Aldersberg.

With none to confine her, Oksana embarked on the pursuit of her own passions within the Duchy. Her focus centered on the Church of the Canon, where she deemed herself a righteous woman, deeply reverent of God, as her birthright bestowed upon her the lineage of Priestesses.

Throughout the passing years, Oksana embraced her calling, she donned the cloth of a deaconess within the diocese of Adria, dedicating herself to the dissemination of the sacred teachings contained within the Holy Scrolls[1]. With unwavering devotion, she propagated the wisdom and enlightenment of the Adrianfolk and her own subjects in Aldersberg.

Marriage

Oksana's penmanship was illegible, and she yearned to acquire the art of writing, as literacy was one of her few passions. This desire led her to encounter several adolescents of her age, including Markus Marie Sarkozic. They shared a deep bond, united by their love for the Scrolls, the preservation of Raevir culture, the practice of chivalry, writing, and the desire to restore faith in the Heartlands.

Together, Oksana and Markus witnessed the disarray in politics and faith in the state, particularly the strained relationship between Duke Heinrik and the Church of the Canon. Determined to bring stability and faith back to Adria, they strategically befriended influential Church officials, hoping to rekindle devotion within the realm.

As the years passed, their relationship blossomed, and at the age of sixteen, Markus promised Oksana that once his quest for righteousness was complete, he would ask for her hand in marriage, securing a Raevir future for his County of Aldersberg if she were to accept his inevitable proposal – which she did, eventually, three years later in the year 1923.

Oksana and Markus’s hope for a wedding in their homeland of Almaris would no longer be feasible, as all the cities were razed and crumbled to dust at the hands of the Mori’quessir. Like most of the populace, they and their bannermen had fled to Savoy, eventually leading them to take to the open seas and dock upon a new continent known as Aevos.

The young and overly pious couple kept their word to one another, remaining in a state of betrothal for a total of five years. In 1928, Markus and Oksana had asked their close friend Father Arnaud Novellen to officiate the ceremony, and with vows exchanged, they embarked on a pilgrimage of Put' Dzhulii, seeking all holy sites of the canonist Realms.
