"Your line, however, descends from bastards of bastards of bastards, many of which are notorious bandits and traitors. Could Marius really be surprised when you turned your cloak as well?" - Sariant Philipp of Metterden

The House Ivanovich is a small, insular noble family that claims descent from the third son of Holy Emperor Tuvya Carrion, Prince Yakov Carrion, a knight during the Schism Era. The family's namesake, Ivan Barrow, was the bastard born son of Yakov and after his father's demise would be raised by Emperor Aleksandr Carrion in his absence.

The present-day incarnation of House Ivanovich claims direct patrilineal descent from St. Arpad Ivanovich, who rose to prominence as a Raevir warrior conscripted by House Romstun. When House Romstun pledged its loyalty to Canonious Horen, St. Arpad pledged the newly anointed King of Renatus his blade and became one of his chiefest, most brutal enforcers. St. Arpad is most well-known for his presence as a commander during the Coup of Adelburg, where alongside Leitseg Romstun and another warrior he took the life of John VI, Holy Orenian Emperor, decapitating him and then violently cleansing the Imperial Court.

In modernity, a descendant of St. Arpad from the line of Ser Konyves Ivanovich by the name of Sir Cato re-founded the House Ivanovich in Modern Oren, pledging fealty to Philip III, Holy Orenian Emperor and being knighted for exemplary service to the Crown during the Urguani-Orenian War. After the death of Sir Cato, his barony fell into the hands of his daughter Vladyslava, who became Baroness of Cherskavy.

After her death and the fall of the Kingdom of Oren during the Battle of Vienne, the legitimized squire Pavel Ivanovich would go on to become the patriarch of the main line of House Ivanovich residing in the Heartlands. The last heir, Sir Stefan, had perished to gout in the intervening years between the Brothers' War and the foundation of the Harvest Confederacy. His son, Saveliy, was to be next-in-line as heir but opted out of the line of succession.

The Barony of Cherskavy was established by Sir Dima Cato Ivanovich and inherited then visualized under Sedan for a time as the seat of House Andrevich, a cadet branch of the family established by Andrezj the Black, the legitimized bastard grandson of Sir Dima Cato Ivanovich, son of his son Arpad's daughter by way of Ivan var Ruthern. His son Ser Sveneld Ivanovich of the line of Andrevich would go on to take the Andreviches and move to the United Kingdom of Aaun after the dissolution of the Harvest Confederacy towards the end of the 18th Century. The main line by way of Pavel Ivanovich would be reconstituted as the lineage of Montalt, hailing from the Commonwealth of the Petra.

Origin

The coat-of-arms of Ivan's Host, an organization of Raevo Cossacks and Highwaymen under Ser Ivan Barrow's employ in Akovia. Famous for enforcing poll taxes on travelers and acts of wanton banditry in the region.
  • Yakov "The Accursed" Carrion perishes; being conscripted by the Undead for service to Iblees as his one last spiteful retaliatory act against Grand Knight Maric Varodyr, who raised his sword in rebellion against crown authority, rebelling against Holy Orenian Emperor Tuvya Carrion. Yakov had suffered from a string of visions that implied the fall of the Carrion Vochna, and believed it to be a message from the Creator. However, it was the forces of Iblees and his soul was stolen from him in his attempt to save his family.
  • The Fourth Holy Orenian Empire enters a state of civil unrest. Grand Knight Maric Varodyr enters open rebellion alongside Aesterwald, warring against the Carrion Vochna and Crown Loyalists. Aesterwald destroys Polaris, the Norlander duchy in their territory that remains loyal to the Crown. Emperor Tuvya Carrion successfully puts down the rebellion. King of Renatus, formerly the Grand Knight of the Fourth Holy Orenian Empire Maric Varodyr and his followers are corrupted into Undead. The ancestral seat of House Varodyr at Kaer Angren is turned into a foothold of Iblees.
  • Holy Orenian Emperor Tuvya Carrion disappears while fighting the Undead Yakov Carrion. Aleksandr Carrion is anointed Holy Orenian Emperor.

In this address, Istvan says that Laszlo Ivanovich has failed in his duties by pledging fealty to Duke John Sarkozic instead of achieving their father Duke Arpad Ivanovich's goal of reforming the Kingdom of Ruska. He passes his claim to the Kingdom of Ruska to Konyves, whom he refers to as "Konyves the Chosen" in his public address, before disappearing.

Genealogy

  • The bloodline of Ivanovich is thought to be cursed due to their descent from the royal blood of Prince Yakov Carrion. The lineage has a reputation for producing some of the most draconian knights in Orenian history, such as Ser Arpad Ivanovich and Ser Konyves Ivanovich. Their rebellious nature has earned them a special place in the History of Man and many who come from their stock are considered to be wild and untamed. In the present-day, the lineage of Arpad perseveres, and men of his descent are born brown or black-haired, possessing the dominant traits of fair skin and blue eyes. The height of Ivanovic males tends to range from 5'11" to 6'4" much like other Highlanders.
  • Within the lineage of Ivanovich, the majority of its members are prone to outbursts and suffer from chronic mental illness. The Curse of Yakov is believed to make them vicious and untamed, while the women of the family consider themselves shrewd and low cunning.

Culture

  • The Ivanovichs are Raevir hailing from the Kingdom of Ruska as well as the Third Holy Orenian Empire. Predominantly Ruskan in ethnicity, the Ruskan Cossacks are fiercely independent and tend to have a loathing for large unitary polities. Throughout most of the tapestried History of Man, the Ivanovichs have pledged their swords in service to sovereigns not in exchange for protection or wealth, but instead for commissions in war. As displayed by the number of knights and military men who have been produced by House Ivanovich throughout the ages, the Ivanovichs take great pride in their military heritage and seek glory through conquest.

Past Titles

The House Ivanovich has existed for centuries and many of its members have held positions in the Holy Orenian Empire, the Apostolic Kingdom of Ruska, and the Duchy of Adria primarily. In the past, Sveneld Ivanovich became the King of Ruska; but his fledgling Raevir kingdom was destroyed and annexed by the Holy Orenian Empire in the late 1500s. This has led to a number of conflicts between the two far-flung Carrion bastard houses of Ivanovich and Barbanov over the claim to the title of the fallen kingdom. The Barony of Cherskavy, likewise, was the dominion of Dima Cato Ivanovich in the latter stages of the Novellen Empire, and was last held by his daughter Vladyslava Ivanovich. However, the line of Andrevich has taken on the title, which is considered to be disputed by their kinsmen in the Commonwealth of the Petra.
