Nikoleta Barbara was the firstborn and only child between HRH Franz Leopold Barbanov and Natalia Elaine Kovachev, born out of wedlock. Subsequently, in early 1837, she was legitimized by King Henrik II and her bastardom was completely erased by her parent's wedding in early 1848. At the age of 10, she was betrothed to Prince Andrik Nikolas, second in line to the throne of Hanseti and Ruska at this time. The pair were married in 1846 and parented three children.
