History

Almaris

The Kingdom of the Barrowlands, also known simply as the Barrowlands, was an hereditary absolute monarchy ruled by the Royal House of Pendraic. Just like modern Nùmendil, it was primarily made up of Adunians and located in central Almaris. The Kingdom of the Barrowlands was established after the Barrowlander Expedition of 108 SA, lead by Ser Uther Pendraic and his war-band. The primary goal of the expedition was to cleanse the cursed region of the Barrowlands of the darkspawn which plagued it, establish a new realm of Canondom, and create a new home for the recently converted Adunic tribe known as the Harren'hil. Once successfully establishing a hold over the majority of the central Barrowlands, Ser Uther Pendraic was crowned King of the Adunians and Lord of the Barrowlands by the High Pontiff, Pontian IV, thereafter Uther would take the regnal name, Tar-Uriel, paying homage to the Adunic kings of old.

Arriving in the lands of Aevos, the Kingdom was reformed and renamed into Númendil, honoring its Aduninian origins.

Aevos

As the Adunians landed upon the newly-found lands of Aevos, they erected a new city and name it PLACEHOLDER. It is situated upon a great bridge-like cliff which spans over the contitents large eastern river, the Earenduin.

Culture and Society

This article is meant to give a small overview of Númenedain culture. For more details, click here.

Fashion

For fashion, Númenedain are typical, if albeit more conservative than most Canonist nations, stemming from Owynist influence. Both men and women are expected to dress modestly, with minimal exposed skin. Because of this, both gloves are common among both genders, and headgear specifically among the women. Due to Númenost’s southern climate, most clothing is fashioned from breathable, if concealing material, which thanks to the wealth of that region, is typically quite finely made and intricate. Because of this stance, sleeveless clothing, cleavage, or shirtlessness among either gender is highly frowned upon, and will often be met by vicious verbal mockery and condemnation.

Art

The Kingdom of Númendil is a hardy and frontier nation, as such most of the people's time is dedicated to resource gathering and military training, and as such little art is produced by them. However, the local church meets the population's artistic needs by providing art and decorations of respected saints and prophets such as Owyn

Demographics

The Kingdom of the Númendil is primarily composed of Adunian settlers, however there are is a small minority of High Elves who have converted to Canonism. Most of those, understand themselves as Númenedain - the people of Númendil. Typical names of Adunians can be found here.

Values

They are martial in spirit, though tempered by half an age of sorrow and kinstrife with the other races of men, the Númenedain turn their swords not on conquest, but in defense of the realms of men against foreign invaders. They are a strong and steadfast people, willing to fight the foul and evil creatures and lurk within the continent.

Religion

The Church of the Canon is the official religion of the kingdom, with a significant number of followers from both the mainstream and Owynist rites.

Politics

Law

Succession

The Kingdom of the Barrowlands follows male-preference primogeniture succession, with all children of the monarch able to inherit with preference given to sons. The son of the current King would be next in line to the throne. Should the monarch bear no sons, then the monarch's daughters shall inherit. If there are no daughters, then the monarch's brother shall inherit, and his sons and daughters after him. If the monarch has no brothers, then his sister shall inherit, and her children henceforth. If the Royal House of Pendraic should go extinctin the Castellan assumes total control until such a time as a successor is found, or until a new line takes the throne. In such a scenario, if no legitimate descendants of the Royal House of Pendraic remain, the throne shall pass to whoever can win it through a bloody contest of arms.

The succession of the Royal Throne is maintained in the Royal House of Pendraic which itself is derived from King Tar-Uriel I.

Nobility of The Kingdom

Court Positions

The King's Court consists of the immediate members of the Royal House of Pendraic, as well as the Castellans, the Captain of the Guard, the Cardinal, and a court alchemist. Additions to the court can be made at any time at the King's behest.

Military

Knights of Númendil

The Knights of Númendil are individual knights, mostly hedgeknights, who followed Ser Uther, who later took the name Tar-Númenatâr, during his years as a traveling Harrenite Warlord before the Barrowlander Expedition of 108 SA. Yet upon the establishment of Númendil in the realm of Aevos, they were greatly expanded.

Guard

The Guard is the local guard force and household-guard of the Royal House of Pendraic, headed by the Captain of the Guard, Ser Garen. Their preferred armor of choice is chainmail, since full plate is too heavy to use in the soggy wetlands of Númendil.
