It was initially planned for farms and barns for the Sutherland Corporation, but the Clan Chief decided to turn it into a settlement where it would be able to host the population living in the area. History

The Jarldom of Dùnrath was formerly a piece of uninhabited land owned by the Kingdom of Norland. It was claimed by the Kingdom of Norland on the event known as the Rænrland Expansion. During year 42 of the Second Age, the chairman of the Sutherland Corporation Daibhidh MacFhilib Sutharlainn, at the time one of the major merchants in Morantìr (also known as Nyrheim or Almaris) attempted and successfully buy out a plot of land located in Southern Rænrland from the King Vane Freysson of Norland as a business venture. However, because of the size and the optimum climate of the plot of land, the chairman decided to transform the plot of land from a business venture into a settlement where people from all over Morantìr can move in and stay. The cultivation of the virgin land started from Year 43 of the second age, of which a lot of settlers from all over the continent settle down into the city and lots of basic infrastructures were built. The settlement was officially recognised and open to the public from Year 45. From the start of Year 45, several government departments were set up to service the increasing population. However, as at Year 49, there was no arm forced set up so far and the social security of Dùnrath was supported by the Northguard and the Norlandic Government.

Names

The city was named Dùnrath during the start of the city’s building and simultaneously given the Common name Dunrae. The Agnethe name was given after the wish of good fortune for the people, as Rath means good fortune in the Agnethe Language. The english variation of Rae is a phonetic variation for the pronunciation in Rath. Both the Agnethe and Common names were in use before SA 43. But a popular vote suggested that the endonym of Dùnrath should be the principal way of which the city calls itself.

The Osmonde Neighbourhood, formally known as Osmund is named after a lady named Matilda Osmonde who has worked in the Sutherland Corporation as one of the most experienced and the most dedicated employee. She was responsible of handling all security matters in the Sutherland Corporation. Her contribution to the Sutherland Corporation and the Sutherland Family was crucial and therefore the neighbourhood was named after her in commemoration of the passing of this lady.

The South Dunbar Neighbourhood is named after the South Dunbar Mountain, the main mountain chain of the region. The mountain get its name from Dunbar (Agnesa: Dùn Barr), a former Agnethe city located in the far north of the Morantìr (Nyrheim/Almaris) continent. Dunbar used to be the main settlement of the Agnethe people but it was destroyed by the harsh weather and constant raiders. This event is also known as The Highland Cleansing.

The Östlandet Neighbourhood was named with the local Sveasspråk language which means "East Land".

The Lairdship of Gränsstad located in Southern Dùnrath was named with the local Sveasspråk language which means "Border Town", it also gets its variation of Grenzstadt.
