The House of Ruthern-Batavus, commonly referred to as House Batavus was a cadet house of House Ruthern, and a vassal of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. The House was the ruling house of the Viscounty of Batavia.

History

In the year 1745, Ivan Ruthern Batavus alongside a few of his friends stormed into the lands west of Oren known as Brunswick. They defeated many foes there and when the battle was done, they had couped the lands. Once Andrew IV, King of Hanseti-Ruska heard of Ivan's brave deeds he was bestowed the title Viscount of Batavia, and he became a vassal of Haense. This lead to the creation of his cadet-house Ruthern-Batavus. Although the city was know under Ivan's control, there was still much work to be done. The battle left many buildings and parts of the city destroyed. The Viscount wasted no time, he immediately contacted his good long time friend Chef Hogo Bojo to design the plans for the cities restoration and renovations. Once the plans were drawn out, Ivan hired workers to help gather materials for the city and to help construct it. Thus the multi year restoration effort began. Hogo continued to commute to the land every day from his home in New Reza to oversee and help in the construction of the city as Ivan had business he had to attend to during the restoration effort. After many years the city was restored. The city had many houses, shops, a keep, and a chapel on-top of the highest hill overlooking the city. Upon the completion of the Viscounty, Ivan returned to look upon his land. The man was pleased beyond belief, and was amazed by the transformation the previously destroyed city had undergone. Although Ivan was very appreciative and amazed by how wonderful his lands were, he ordered the city to be torn down and for the resources collected and put into storage. Ivan was told by the King that his lands were too far from the Kingdom of Haense and that he was to be relocated at once. Hogo was quite furious at this news as he had worked on the city for many years and had invested lots of his money into it. After hearing this, Hogo left Batavia never to return to the lands. The city was torn down as the Viscount had instructed and the resources that could be salvaged were put into a warehouse. Ivan waited patiently for the Crown to give him new lands within the Kingdoms border. Years went on with the house having no lands but still retaining their Nobility. At last what appeared to be a turning point for the house occurred. Ivan Ruthern-Batavus was summoned before his Majesty the King and was knighted. Shortly after Ivan received knighthood, talks about receiving new land started. Although sometimes life is deceiving. The talks about the land fell through and the house continued as they had for many years before then, without land. Many more years passed without any talks of land. Peter III, Emperor of the Holy Orenian Empire demanded that he or his representatives were the ones who decided who got to be a noble within Haense. The King of Haense reluctantly agreed which lead to many of his vassals to have their titles called illegitimate. House Batavus was one of those houses, so their titles and nobility were stripped. Ser Ivan continued to lead the house for a few years before abdicating to his second son, Ruben Batavas. At first Ruben was overjoyed to lead the house that he waited his entire life to lead. However, since the house no longer bared a title, he and his family were no longer nobility and thus didn't get the privileges that came with nobility. He wanted the best for himself and the rest of his family so he decided to dissolve the house and merge back with the parent house, Ruthern.
