Tobias I (Common: Tobias I; High Imperial: Tovenius I), born as Oliver Blackwell, was High Pontiff between 1546 and 1552. Tobias I was most known for his early failure of making the lands of Lorraine holy with no real moral grounds, many historians believe the move was entirely political, and possibly to win the majority vote of the Synod. Tobias I started off on the wrong foot with Emperor John II by holding off his coronation for a longer than normal period of time due to political unrest between Lorraine and Felsen. After a saint week of waiting Tobias I coronated John II as was his birthright and moved on to other matters within the Church. The Synod was not united under Tobias I, and as such plots of assassination were common by pentarchs, however the most famous one was the assassination plot of Johannes de Ruyter which lead to an excommunication which was later revoked by Tobias I’s successor Daniel III. Tobias I, like the saint he was named after had a knack for minas, and despite not being the most politically competent he made the church a large amount of money from sales of blessed crosses, prayer candles, and a proper tithe which was not seen for decades in a few notable cities, including Felsen for a short period of time. Tobias I’s will gave all of the Church funds, including Minas that were his by allocation directly to the Church, and not to distant family. In Tobias I’s last years there were many causes of stress which came from Vandoria such as denunciation of a Canonist state by John Godfrey Horen, and a personal assassination attempt by John Godfrey himself. These lead to high blood pressure, and soon after a heart attack. Post mortem writings of Tobias I suggest a Holy year was to be called with many festivals, and activities planned for an entire year. More economic plans, and ways to make money for the Church during this year were also found.
