Baroness consort of Selm
Tenure: 6th of Sigismund's End, 1726-Present
Born: 10th of Owyn's Flame, 1710, Helena, Kingdom of Renatus
Spouse: John I of Selm
House: Helane
Father: Antonius I of Man
Mother: Karenina of Alban

Vespira Antonia (10th of Owyn’s Flame, 1710 - pres.), also known as Vespira the Viper and The Mad Princess, is the wife of the former Orenian Archchancellor, John Andrew de Balain, and daughter to Emperor Antonius I. She is mostly remembered for her dramatic murder of the Empress-Mother Cesarina Louise, in front of the Imperial Court in 1730, at age 20.

Early Life

Vespira Antonia was born to Antonius I and his Haeseni wife, Karenina of Alban, on 10th of Owyn’s Flame, 1710, in Helena, Renatus. She was the youngest girl of her five siblings, but was known in her father's court during her youth for her prickly nature. Nevertheless, she was doted on by her parents for her dedication to her studies and early patronage of medicinal research. In 1715, at just 5 years old, the War of the Two Emperors began, and her father released his vassals; however, many argue the validity of his decree, as Godfrey II is argued to have already assumed the throne by this time, as Antonius I was couped. Upon Everard V’s excommunications of the Pertinaxi, Vespira was sent away to Nova Horos, with a hired tutor from Brillantmont to keep her company.

Adolescence

Return to Oren

Some time ago, one might note the woman’s girlish timidity as her defining feature. Upon her re-arrival to the Imperial Court, Vespira was less than noteworthy, following diligently in the Empress-Mother’s footsteps, bringing her wine, cheese, and grapes; whatever the elder Imperial so desired. However, the ugly head of Cesarina’s temperament soon reared itself, and the Pertinaxi adolescent found herself appalled at the prospect of being a part of the domestic household Cesarina sought to create for herself. Vespira made quick work of the court, selecting the Imperial Archchancellor as her preferred suitor, the Empress-Mother’s known rival. Within the year, they were wed, and by the age of 19, Vespira had murdered Cesarina in cold blood at the defence of her husband. Many at court presumed that the madness which plagued her bloodline had all but forgotten about Antonius’ youngest girl.
