Serpent’s stalk is rather easy to identify and find, having emerald hued stalks with strips and ridges of a lighter green and brown along its length. It grows in tight clusters near still bodies of water and thus a sense of peace is attributed to the plant. Any pond which bares serpent's stalk at its edges is thought to be a grand place of relaxation causing some people to desire such setups in their gardens.

The size of this plant varies from small, young shoots, to massive stalks that reach towards the sky. It continues to grow until its own weight causes it to snap due to lack of support. Which would make one believe that if they could somehow provide support for the stalks there may be no limit to how high it can reach.

For harvesters this is easy to collect by cutting as low as possible on the stalk and despite its name this plant lacks any poisonous or even irritative qualities towards people. However, it does seem to be poisonous to some insects meaning a creative farmer or someone simply irritated by insects around their home might find serpent's stalk to be a natural solution to pest control.

While serpent’s stalk holds no irritative qualities, making it completely safe to eat, it’s so bland that those who try never really bother to eat it a second time. Yet being exposed to too much of the juices from this herb is said to lower body temperature which could be useful if someone is overheating or has a fever. Due to a cooling effect from the juice of the stalks, serpent’s stalk is a very common ingredient in treatments for burns. It not only seems to lessen the pain from the burn but even help them to heal.
