Another easily identifiable forest plant that grows near small bodies of water, such as ponds, and often within the water of the pond itself. Serpent’s Stalk can be identified by long, deeply emerald hued stalks, hence the name, with strips and ridges of a lighter green and brown along its length. This reed-like plant is easy enough to collect, just cut it as low as possible, and simple to use. Although the name may suggest a poisonous nature, this is not true for the most part. From my observations, and that of a few locals I have spoken to, the Serpent’s Stalk seems to only be poisonous to specific insects that come into contact with it. I am unsure why but it seems to be safe enough for human, and animal consumption. Through careful testing I’ve concluded that this could act as a powerful ingredient to potions based around the Water element and therefore could be used in antidotes, potions of calmness, oils, balms, and healing potions. In fact, a local remedy involves the crushing of the upper stalk of this plant, mixing it with water, and pouring it on burns to help soothe the pain. If this is the case, then it will certainly be useful for potions for the purpose of putting out fires, or numbing pain.

Serpent's Stalk is a green and brown grass. Comprised of fibrous stalks, the plant has a variety of culinary and medicinal uses.

Description

Resembling sugar cane, Serpent's Stalk is emerald-colored with lighter green and brown strips. Its height varies.

Habitat and distribution

The edges and shallows of still bodies of water in all environments.

Cultivation

Serpent's Stalk can be farmed similar to rice, and requires at least a 2x1 block space. When adjacent to or submerged in water and exposed to sunlight (planted no deeper than one block in water), Serpent's Stalk grows once every three OOC days.

Harvesting

One must cut the lowest part of the stalk at its base in order to reap a measure containing symbols, signs, and the plant’s raw effects. Serpent’s Stalk can also be ‘farmed’ in a manner akin to rice, submerging seeds or roots in water no deeper than a puddle or planting it directly on the edge of a body of water.

Uses

Serpent’s Stalk can be consumed with a rather bland taste and will mildly lower body temperature upon consumption. Serpent’s Stalk is also poisonous to insects and small rodents (sized no larger than a rat) when consumed in any solid form. When crushed up and mixed with water, a salve can be produced which can sooth pain inflicted by burns.

Alchemical

Due to its Water sign, Serpent's Stalk is commonly used as an ingredient in antidotes, potions of calmness, oils, balms, and healing potions.
Symbol(s): Growth x3 Coldness x2 Swiftness x3

Medicinal

Serpent's Stalk can be ground, infused with water, and poured onto burns in order to relieve pain.

Culinary
